Hi, well firstly must say im pretty surprised by you asking me to look into it cos im just another joe blo like yourself. Spoke to MTNDD because i was occasionally timing out esp with hotmail and piggs poker and from what he replied to me they did a fix on the network.

Dunno who the replacement is but im sure there will be a notification when one has been appointed but concerning our problem MTNDD should be the one to spk to as he is now in "Networking" (i would assume).

your results do seem very bad and im trying to check mine but it seems my card is timing out again. Will post results when i get speedtest working

Why don't you try switching back to GSM only and testing EDGE?
Good idea! :) ... stand by..
Dang.. this may sound silly.. but I can't seem to do it..
I'm on Linux you know.. and the only way to force the thing into 2G only mode that I know of is with the "AT+COPS" command.. only it doesn't seem to work on the E220.. weird .. it switches to 2G for a moment but as soon as it gets connected it hops back onto 3G..

Guys

MTN int link is running at max - There seems to be a general problem with int bandwidth at the moment

MTNDD
OK.. thanks for the update MTNDD.. :)
I take it the problem is being looked into then?
Thanks

Hi Rudi

To connect your vodacom SIM just make sure you dialing into *99#, and also make sure your APN is set to "internet" in your Mobile Connect Network Connection Settings.

Tonight im connecting VODA cause MTN is dead dead dead, and VODA is flying. Thank you MTN for the "free USB modem" which i pay R75 per month for, including airtime of R75. lol.

Come to think of it, couldnt there just be an error in the accuracy of speedtest because i just did a cape town test just out of curiosity and the only improvement was the latency and not that big improvement either, rest of the results were actually worst.

Here is a speedtest I done with my two simcards in my HSDPA E220 modem connected with 3g only option. MTN connection would not even allow a full test through internetfrog.com test, so I stuck with numion.com.

It is important to note that MTN test only succeeded when there was a BURST of data that could go through. For some reason MTN connection has long dead times (30 seconds plus) followed by a quick burst of data transfer. So pathetic.

26 March 2007, numion.com speedtest
Vodacom @ 9:56pm
Download speed: 354.01 kbit/sec
upload speed: 56.73 kbit/sec
Latency: 1276ms

MTN @ 10:02pm
Download speed: 68.58 kbit/sec
Upload speed: 31.71 kbit/sec
Latency: 1220 milliseconds
