MTN launches mobile GPS

Cool.

I'd like to see traffic reporting moving towards a goal of automated updates.

ie. GPS knows it's in a 100km/h area, 200 cars in the area are standing still, or driving at 10km/h, this info is fed to the server, and cars bound for that area are automatically diverted to less congested roads, aggregating the load on the roads.

Only new customers or those renewing? So if you recently renewed your contract, you may have to wait up to just less than 2 years for this?
What a joke.

it's coming.... :)

Vodacom all the way :)

I suspect Vodacom customers had this feature all along. If I read the press release correctly, this is a Voice Routing Application for Blackberry's?

AFAIK, all Vodacom BB's with built-in GPS have this as a standard feature, free as part of the BB bundle.

I use my BB's voice routing quite often. One cool feature is the 'walk' option. When you input a new destination, it asks if you want to walk or drive. If it's close enough and you select walk, it'll route you via alleys to get get to the destination over the shortest distance. Tried it in Prague a while ago and it really worked well.

I got my blackberry from MTN 3 days ago. I guess i will just have to wait for another two years again until I can get garmin on my phone. #fail

I dig my Sat NaV on My Blackberry Bold from Vodacom.... It is the Best
Used it a lot

Yup me too , its the best tool a guy can have. I was a bit confused when I saw this heading as I thought all BB come out with it , then I realised that SAT NAV is a Vodafone App so only Vodacom clients benefit in SA.

Are the maps updated on the bolds and storms? i searched for the police station in Midrand and was located to some industrial place. i stopped to ask and was told the station had moved 8 years ago!WTF?

I guess the Vodafone satnav comes in handy, I always wondered what MTN used...

Now if only Voda launched Satnav on all their GPS enabled handsets!!

I would not get to excited about this GPS software, with the MTN gang. There are already quite a few phones on the market, fully compatible with say Garmin XT, and even they don't get the software with the contract.

Overseas is ofcourse a different story but in SA :( , one has to pay for every *%$ component or software addon. The moneygrabbers always find ways to s__ you.

Anyway for interest sake;
Received a quote yesterday, Garmin XT is +- R 1100.00 to buy. So get a Nokia with free navigation software or prepare to fork out some cash.:o

Nokia Maps are doing pretty well and they are even more up to date than Garmin XT. Plus you get 2 years free navigation with Nokia Maps.

Gamin XT can be had for free with very little skill required. I have both and they did not cost me a thing.

Download Garmap for MTN Blackberry

Hi

Dunno if this will do the trick, but it works on my phone. Go to garmapformobile.wisepilot.com and install the software. It picks up your cell number and generates a password for you. Works on my bold and on a friend's Nokia. Much better than the generic Blackberry GPS

How to get the Garmin application on your BlackBerry

Just dial *123#, select option 1 and then option 8. MTN will send you an SMS with a URL. Follow the link from your Berry and install.
It will ask you if it should send an SMS on your behalf to register your product. Click on yes.

Wait a while for the process to queue and clear.

Its as easy as 1,2,3!

:D

CAUTION

Now Now -- you are a marked man -- about to go the way of the Pirate Bay.

Just wait till PeterCH finds this thread of yours ( blattently boasting ) ........

Better take out some fresh life insurance

:D
