hey guys

got suckered by a real estate agent - we moved into a block of flats and they told us Telkom was already there, had done cabling etc and that many people already had telephones. i did see the telkom boxes on site and figured all would be well. go to apply for adsl and heeellllllloooooooooo! no infrastructure. fail.

good news is my mtn connection is rip roaring good from the flat - full 5 bar signal and it cooks on the downloads.

i was thinking of going mtn lte -- its just for 2 of us (my wife and i), and we want to play wow and raid a bit. from the 3g signal, i'm seeing pings ranging from 200 to 900ms , its not all that stable.

friend told me his vodacome lte is nice at 200/200 - but every now and then the ping goes up a bit... so link is not constant. i'm not part of any guild that's trying to win realm firsts etc, and we don't have a serious raiding team, we're more social... so i'm not tooooo worried about pings fluctuating.

anyone tried the mtn lte for gaming - or have any alternative suggestions? its been 19 days since i've been able to play wow and the withdrawal has been painful to say the least !!!

It's never a good idea to rely on wireless for gaming any gaming.
You may get good latency at times but when the tower you connecting to it congested your latency will be unbearable.

I wouldnt recommend it to you, your RAID party will begin to get annoyed with you :)

Lag spikes is to be expected on wireless. I don't think LTE is going to be different.

Figure out where the towers are and consider getting an directional antenna (panel) for whatever wireless provider you decide on. It should reduce noise from sources outside the "direction" (less spikes)... but will increase those inside the "direction". So point the bugger at the tower that is not behind a highway or engineering works or Malema's house. xD

i raided on mtn 3g back in days , 260ms stable , but i used vpn on those gaming vpns , helped me quite a bit to get it stable.

thanks all - i'm getting my iphone 5 today which is lte ready, so i'll give it a test run tonight... if it sucks, i'm going to have to suck it down and wait for helkom
