Are you SERIOUS !!!!

Afrihost mobile data in Marshalltown on MTN 3G (LTE is not activated yet):

Vodacom K5008-Z (ZTE MF-825) USB dongle on a Linux laptop.

not shabby :)
Vodacom LTE clocked at just 8Mbit, I am seeing forward to MTN LTE now.

Update
Now on MTN 4G (Afrihost SIM):

A first test was 10Mbit less in downloads but removing the dongle from the laptop and hanging it over the lid with a 50cm USB cable pushed it up.

International is lousy though:

If I hang it out of the window .....?
Where can I get for a decent price a 10m to 20m active USB cable in Joburg JBD? Any tips?

thx

I have moved over from CellC data to MTN. I must say that the connectivity in Lyttelton Centurion is appalling. CellC was bad already, but on MTN there is way too many dropped packets - 5%. To do a speedtest does not really tell the story. In a timeframe of two minutes I got vastly different results.

I ran a continuous ping to the mtn website and got 5% (not good enough) dropped packets in over a 1000 packets sent: Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds: Minimum = 36ms, Maximum = 3025ms, Average = 260ms

511 ping
0.09Mbps
0.05Mbps

Vox supplied MTN sim in dongle in Parkhurst.
Usually happily on 50 meg fibre but Vox have stuffed that up too.

That ping is broken (for LTE) but by all other accounts, George has been havin' it!
