Also how fast is it when you download something more...official, like Adobe Reader?
My Signal is -65 dbi, and if i download Adobe Reader I get about 18 kB/s.

just to make sure you are not
,disconnect, then change your MTN Connect>Setup>Network>Options to WCDMA Preferred or WCDMA only, then connect again.
It should be showing WCDMA/HSPA+ and not EDGE

My MTN settings are not set to EDGE, this I know because I have set this up a while back last year October then everything was great, it only started since FEB and got worse, this has to be there shaping etc. But thanks anyway dude.
Wow this weekend the speeds were up to 2Mbps downloading from steam, and back to 40kbps this morning

Throttled... technically (I've used more than 100GB this last month). I've phoned MTN and they said it's normal. I'm not going to argue.

Loopin How did you get those speed sometimes i get for 1 Day like 1mbps and the rest of the time like 340 kilbits
thats like 40kB's and on torrents i get 30-40 KB"s what did you do bribe MTN

Man, I don't know. I was throttled in March and then from April 13 or so I've just been getting consistently amazing internet...
I thought it was a little odd, and knowing how these companies like to nail customers with crazy bills I phoned emailed and today I spoke to MTN in person and was assured that I wasn't going to be charged any OOB prices despite the fact that I wasn't being throttled. I even had them give it to me in writing...
Yes, I chatted to the sales oke about tablets and he asked if I wanted a micro sim.
So if your'e planning on using it for an iPad just remember to ask

Whatever you do, DONT GET THIS!
I am living in Secunda Mpumalanga and was suckered into getting one of those MTN data lite uncapped packages for R289 per month. Where I live MTN only has EDGE signal. I have no complains about not having 3g. EDGE is supposed to have a throughput speed of about 25kb/s - way more then enough for the basic web browsing / email I intended to use it for.
My problem is that even if I have full EDGE signal my data transfer rate is never faster then 800b/s - 2000b/s that is atrocious! I am now stuck with a data contract that is completely useless to me. Places in town with full 3g signal I am happy if I get 20kb/s max! I tried this with a variety of modems and or wireless routers and tethering phones.
On the same laptop and iPhone using Vodacom sim cards I get full HSDPA speed at home and in town.
Please anybody reading this make sure you test whether you actually will get any data throughput on MTN before you go for one of their bundles where they sell that which they are unable to deliver and or which they do not have...
Once they have you signed on a contract it is tickets, you have to pay them every month for NOTHING but unfriendly call center staff!

Wow if we could get 1Mbps I'd be very happy to say the least.. If there is any way to start such a petition I'd sign.
