MTN Uncapped services from 1 June

First there was capped...

Then there was uncapped...

Now we have capped uncapped...

I can't believe that someone dreamt this up... and someone else agreed with it... and they both get paid to do it!

LOL!

capped with uncapped local....those were the days!!!!

Now I would not really call this fake and gay but perhaps its a little pretentious and slightly bi-curious.

Say you are on 3G so you get about 384kbps - with that you kill off your first GB in day one.
Then for the other 30 days in the month at 128kbps you can manage 30GB, thus you get 33GB for R750

I am sure you can get capped ADSL offerings that are better for the same price. However that is pretty sweet for a mobile operator to go uncapped.

Wou-daar-kom will never do this.

One has to remember that MTN's first BIG announcement was the fact that their out of bundle rates were dropping. Big fat WOW! That would help about 0.0000000000000000001% of the population.
Now they come up with another winner ... NOT!
MTN = FAIL!

128k does not = internet, in 2010
sorry :(

Uhh, I'd say 384kbps <> internet !!

Telkom needs to give us Fast= 1Mbps, faster = 4Mbps and Fastest = 8Mbps.

What I mean is WHEN Telscum gives us faster (cheaper) access speeds, then we might not move to their competition, which is "slowly becoming" the wireless, mobile way.

I'm sure this has been said before, but Eff Orf MTN you lying Bastards!!

Vodacom has no immediate plans to launch uncapped mobile broadband services, but Vodacom South African MD Shameel Joosub said that consumers can expect Vodacom to remain competitive and offer them competitive value in the broadband space.

How? What? Where? All Vodacom's been doing lately is promise they will be competitive. How are you going to offer competitive value? When are you planning to release some information on this? Vodacom statements lately makes me think they've been caught with their pants down.

As far as uncapped MTN goes 24 month contract makes it a no-go for most. Business accounts will probably benefit from this.

Also anyone care to comment on the difference between 128k on ADSL vs wireless? Surely 128 on ADSL should be faster and more consistent cause of signal issues?

Its a step in the right direction but looking at the Mweb offerings it does seem criminal.

How about 1mb-2mb, unlimited, after 3 gig cap drop it down to 512kb. Shape the connections during 7am-7pm and thereafter not

The two problems are 1) 24 month contract 2) R750 bucks is not viable for most South Africans

R300 is even a lot for most South Africans but would be seen as a big change wrt "Internet access for everyone in South Africa"

Easiest way to get everyone online in SA is to offer 1mb uncapped (shaped during business hours) for R200 (pay as go - subject to 30 days expiry date)

If they are going to drop down to 128kbps then they should call it "uncapped narrowband".

Really folks - if it is less than a megabit then it is a narrowband.

Not sure what you mean by that?
Do you mean 1Mbps? 1millibit is an awful small amount of data approx.= 0.001 bits ?:D Did you mean ADSL or wireless?

30 days is great. You can top anytime you need to, none of this "monthly" cra-ap !!

who regulates the use of words like "uncapped" in the telecoms arena? surely the use of the word is intended to mislead. how do we make sure that only uncapped offerings are uncapped, and not followed by some "T&C apply"

Well it is see, but because you only get 128kbps after you did your first 3GB, it is the connection that limits you to 30GB.
