MTN Unrestricted APN

It’s a business feature (to make VPNs work) for remote users, and thats why the APN is VPN and not unrestricted like Vodacom.

I use Telkom sim cards with great success even in smaller towns. Data cheaper and you don’t need unrestricted as it always are.

R1 for sim and test it at the location, if you need bigger bundles that you can buy on banking, go to Telkom shop and ask for the bigger bundles, some even doesnt expire in month.

MTN contracts isn’t too bad either, get nice specials, and then you can still top them up.

Don't really want to change providers. I upgraded my MTN 2016 Black Friday contract with the intention of using data share on the router at home. Should've done a bit more research on this and upgraded to a new number at the time :X3:

Seems like my best bet is to get one of the R39 contracts for the router with MTNVPN activated and then data share to that.

Thanks for the help! You were far more helpful than anyone I spoke to at MTN.

Has anyone been able to activate the mtn vpn recently?

I've been trying for the past week. 1 of my numbers got activated. Now they saying the service is not available to personal customers (only business customers).

I asked how did I get it activated on my personal number last week and they were confused. MTN has the most inconsistent service department

I just spoke to MTN and they say they do not open ports or VPN's any more, does anybody else have same respons

You will need a MTN Business contract, it has a fixed IP and a non GCNAT IP. You will also need a compatible CAT6 router.

I have a MTN sim card from afrihost on a fixed LTE month to month contract. Is it possible to get unrestricted access as i require an open port to link to my clocking system. Is it just me or has Afrihosts level of service dropped recently? I will have to change providers if needed. Any feedback will be appreciated.

On our Fixed LTE we do not do Carrier Grade Nat.

If you are on MTN Fixed LTE from Afrihost you get a public IP. If you are on Telkom you could get a natted IP but changing the APN to unrestricted will resolve that.

On Airmobile we nat by default but can remove it on request.

I have a mtn lte business contract and a Hauwei b525 router which is cat 6. I cannot get nat type 2 on my ps4. Tried DMZ, uPnp settings even called mtn a number of times to be told im on an unrestricted network already.

Have you changed your apn settings on the router to mtnvpn?

I think the mtnvpn APN has been retired, have you tried businessbb.lte ?

All in lowercase.
Yes i did also does not connect. Mtn retired that aswell. Would my router be an issue since it was from telkom and not mtn?

They didnt retire that APN as we use it and it works.

Bring the SIM to an MTN store maybe they can test it.

I just tested mine. The mtnvpn settings works on my phone still.
I dont have a business contract also, they didnt disable my apn after they made that stupid change. But I dont need the unrestricted APN on my phone, I needed it on my modem sim and they refused to activate it

I tried mtnvpn on my phone with a datashared simcard and it does not connect. Is it just mtnvpn all small as the apn setting? I will try taking it to a store for testing

I also tried it on a standard mtn contract sim and it doesn't connect

Yeah some of those salespersons at the store do not understand what we are asking for. I asked my boss yesterday to stop by at one and he came back with a R6500 laptop paid at R499 over 3 years with the 40GB data on the consumer account. I think when he called me on the line he may have had me on the speaker when I said that the person is not understanding what we are asking for.

I went in today to another store, they directed me to business sales and they were also not understanding and wanting to sell me a 1TB data contract.
