Mweb Abuse Notification

got my first warning today :) lol... bad month, steam sale = 56gb then dad did about another 60gb and i did another 12gb here and there... steam sales must stop then wont get warnings... but anyway thinking of moving ISPs... i admit that is abuse if going crazy with lines... mweb service is fine for everyone that says it sucks... ive been unshaped on weekends so thats great... and as other guys say after while cant think of more to download or storage an issue... so keep calm download on and do what want to if abuse and your account gets canceled maybe like they say, THINK OF UNSHAPED ACCOUNT THEN!!! anyways my 5cents put in...

@SSung I agree, using slower speeds inevitably translates to have longer (prolonged) sessions
@ld13 Thanks for the comment on the TLDR, that's one less worry for me :D
@froot Interestingly enough, I only really downloaded for the 2nd half of that month when I got 190GB. In fact.. I used much more during that 2nd half. I did this early on to find out if I would get a warning. I then proceeded to download normally; letting the queue run in the background till I got a warning out of the blue. That 180GB figure you mention is subjective.

Anyhow, there's no need to complain. Today MWEB helped me make up my mind about cancelling my account. To think that I had previously decided to stay with them for a while longer. I was even going to stay with them if they didn't change their prices. But with launch of their 'new' product today (pay less for less), they've gone and made an untimely point that they will not be competing with the 'new' Telkom product. I'm looking forward to using either Telkom (the ISP) or Openweb.

In response to their launch, I'll have the audacity to say uncapped ADSL throttling is not cool. I want the "best possible experience .. without being slowed down because of data usage". I do want an ISP that "can’t keep up with the demand and are forced to throttle a user’s connection". I will "shop around for the best ADSL deals".

If MWEB is getting upset because you're using STEAM, in theory you could nab them by using the FTA (Free Trade Agreement/Commission). I think SA signed treaties with USA, etc in terms of trade. MWEB can't consider STEAM traffic illegitimate as it's seen legitimate by bilateral agreements with SA. Maybe Naspers also deals along FTA agreements and maybe they could be sanctioned - in a more perfect world.... hehe. I know it won't happen. :)

Its not your responsibility to check your usage all the time. its the ISP's responsibility to curb the heavy downloaders by halving their speeds when they go over a certian limit. the speed keeps being reduced until the user learns to adjust his usage, but no warning or closing of accounts. if you cannot take the heat then get yourself out of the kitchen

We want rights! We wants rights! OK OK. On a serious note what they are doing is illegal. I think I'll lead this issue by firstly approaching the Advertising Standards Association and forcing them to change their advertising to say "large cap" not uncapped and then secondly I'd suggest we band together and do a class action lawsuit against them for loss of gaming pleasure erm, I mean income.

The fact of the matter is NOT some people abusing the system. The fact is that it is being sold as an uncapped solution. If you were sold an jet that was apparently capable of flying at Mach 5 but then they take the plane away when you do in fact fly at that speed wouldn't you be pissed? Same thing applies here

This is nonsense. Don't stand for it. Vote with your feet.

This does not seem unreasonable - curious as to why Mweb doesn't use this model

Doesn't the people who only use 20-30Gb even out the heavy downloaders? Do they get threatening emails to start downloading or else their accounts are going to be cancelled as well?

99% correct. except it is not illegal in my opinion. They are on the border of breach of contract and MWEB knows that. Reason.... Look at the warning letters you guys get. You will not find any mention of a limit value. All the explanations are very vague. This is on purpose. MWEB knows that as soon as they say: " OK chappie, your are abusing our network because you downloaded 400g in x period of time. blah blah." it is not uncapped but a service with a set limit.

I agree that if you buy something that is unlimited you must get unlimited. DOES NOT MATTER what others download. To the people on here saying things like "always the few that ruin it for the many." why did you go uncapped in the first place then, was it not because you wanted a service that will allow you to download as much as you want when you want. You guys are probably the same people who will scramble for a lifeboat and when you have a seat, start throwing the bigger people overboard because you are getting uncomfortable. Its like a bunch of children shouting: "But Johnny got more ice-cream that me. That is not fair." , even though his mom said there is enough for everyone.

Direct you anger towards MOM that said there is enough ice-cream, not towards each other. MOM has a choice, either there is enough ice-cream or not. Cant have it both ways.

You cant abuse uncapped ice-cream but mom can regulate the supply of ice-cream.

Well, at least I can go somewhere else if Mdreck decides to kick me off..

This is a quite disturbing thread.

People tend to have short memories of Mweb. That or they are too young to remember the past ;)

I am happy elsewhere.

MWEB don't like me either. Just got my 2nd warning (1st this month) and I've done 230GB.

EDIT: In actual fact.. I have done LESS this month than any other full month since I bought this account.
