My car can go 260 max - how dare there be road rules that stipulate I may not go 260!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Honda sold me a product I can't use to its full ability

When you bought your car, was the speed limit 260 or 120?

When you bought your MWEB uncapped account, was it uncapped or capped/clearly FUP'd?

See the difference? Traffic laws are clearly defined. You knew exactly what they were BEFORE you signed up to use the service (by getting a license and buying the car).

What MWEB is doing is very different. They sold you a product using terms like "uncapped" and with the CEO stating in public their only definition of abuse is multiple users concurrently using the same account.

But now they are rewriting the terms&conditions as it suits them. And this is not on.

You cannot sell a product and then refuse to give clear parameters what the service consist (and not consist) of.

As I posted above, the Consumer Protection Act is clear on this. Service Providers have to make sure you, the consumer, fully understands the product and service they will deliver to you.

How is it possible to do this, if the SP changes the rules on the fly? The CPA will make mincemeat of SP's who still think this is acceptable.
 
Well then why haven't you taken it up with the CPA?

MWEBs T&C's clearly state they can do as they please and you must be happy with it, that's what you agreed to by accepting the terms.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think its right - and I've voted with my wallet - I cancelled last month because of the continued promises of better speeds, upgrades, etc.... and nothing coming from it.

Mostly because the CPA got pushed out......but it will kick in and will change the landscape (not always for the better of consumers, I believe, BTW.)

That's kinda my point. The days of SP's (or any other company) hiding behind T&C's they can change at will is coming to an end.

Again, how would you feel if your Honda was spec'd at 260Km/h when you bought it, but the first time you try it, it only goes to 160? And Honda says they changed the spec without telling you, after all their T's&C's allow them to do so.

Fully agree with you, one should vote with one's wallet.

But the whole idea is that you vote BEFORE making a purchase and not to be forced to vote after the fact because you did not have all the info.

Actually, the more I think about it, the more it seems like a case for the ASA.
 
Seems pretty fair to me. Some people want to pull down 50 gigs via a VPN or via port 80 like they're about to open a video store from the boot of their car. I think MWEB are being pretty nice about it & considering the other users.
 
I think people who read this forum will get a quick idea of what is and what isn't.
 
Had no problem with mweb at all for six months did 350gb std a month no complaints though, had to cancel since the net was invading my private life. Guys please accept it as it is , a solid product and great value for money. And yeah you can call me fanboy if you like, I really don't mind. Thank you mweb for opening the web to us and let us have a taste of the global web.
 
It's the 'African gimme gimme mentality' with a lot of users. The minute you give them an inch, they're complaining it's not a mile. That's not to say there aren't users with valid technical issues.

show me an ISP that provides better uncapped for similar money.

ja, it is probably the best thing available for people who can't afford a real uncapped solution.

hmmm....its not so much bout afforadability....its more bout getting wat u paid for....and for R539 a month....its damn good service.....

and if you happy with paying double..then u should get double the service and user experience.....
 
That's exactly what it is. If you don't like the service, pay more for something faster.
 
I decided to get myself some true uncapped with Openweb Gold. There isn't even a counter to track how much you've done. Pretty much full speeds all the time. simple FUP. have not looked back after leaving mweb.
 
I think the main problem here is the lack of revealing what an acceptable limit is - the guys who want to play nice aren't really given something to work with - I'm sure if you downloaded 24/7 via http or some normal usage without bypassing any of the shaping they wouldn't like it either. How about giving us some figures to work with ?

In itself, the myriad of reasons notwithstanding, you have to admit that, what, 900 bucks a month for data is beyond ludicrous though? even 500 is utterly bat**** insane as far as I am concerned.

we pay relatively more for stuff in what is a developing country. live with it.

cars. phones. computers. and internet to name but a few.

at least our steaks are still value for money.

I suspect it has far more to do with the monopolies and government and regulatory incompetence with regards to telecommunications than inherently the fact that we are a developing country.

As far as I know, there are developing countries doing far better in this sector than SA.

Also, and I am no expert, isn't this sort of infrastructure important to a developing nation? Why is it that the powers that be seem to treat it all as a big joke?

monopolies are not an uncommon thing in developing countries. it's just that in some instances some countries are more forward thinking. they realise where growth potential lies and pour resources into those fields.
