MWEB ADSL capacity boost during Seacom downtime

Personally I don't mind the speed being a bit slower while there is an issue. But the constant connection errors with websites is starting to really irritate me. Shape the traffic but don't drop normal browsing connections constantly, thats probably just increasing the ammount of traffic since now everybody is constantly busy refreshing pages.
 
my math is that if ISPs work on having a 1:20 contention ratio as a norm (so capped based on the product offered and uncapped taking the total of capped data sold for the month and spread over the period) and you have you are being provisioned on several cables then surely if 50% of your provisioned international capacity which is always in use goes on the blimp you can still provide full service to your capped clients and 1:60 or so contention ratio for the uncapped clients before even looking at things from a redundancy or backup point of view.
 
The current speeds are decent now, I was getting to the point of signing up with someone else. Though if they don't learn from this and make sure this kind of disruption never happens again I'll switch providers without hesitation.

Nope not the only one... Other than torrents not really working I've also barely noticed impact on my MWEB connection...
 
well it is still playing up for me....don't believe they have 90% capacity. Speedtest is much slower at the moment, usually 3.47MB/s now on 2.7MB/s download and some sites not loading.

Where are the two of you located? You seem to be among the few fortunates - everyone else I know on MWeb struggled the entire weekend.
 
The odd thing is that my youtube started performing worse after this announcement. And I have not been able to connect to dota2 for some obscure reason. Which is strange because dota2 is hosted locally at mweb at the moment. So that makes zero sense to me.

The joys of paying enough per month to buy a small car for decent internet. Just makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. I mean I can sympathise with the cut in international traffic, but the local stuff (youtube included, since we have cache servers here)... That I just don't get at all.


Edit much later: I feel rather bleek about this: I found later that my dota2 was not connecting, because there was something wrong with the shortcut. Also I found Youtube worked great as long as you viewed videos at the greatest resolution. So the problem seemed to be that low res video did not work well (probably a conversion performance issue). But I'd used that shorcut before and the Youtube thing is quite counter intuitive. So anyway. Felt I should mention it.

My torrents came back this afternoon but paused now because downloading my free Battlefield 3, running at 160kB/s on a 2meg line so I'm a happy chappy!!! big thnx to all the guys that jumped ship:)
 
Have MWeb announced how they are getting their redundant capacity? Through WACS?

I'm in Centurion - but seems since this announcement things have gone backwards here by me as well, wa hamba wena!
 
what boosted capacity?

I still don't have any connectivity since the outage not even local, I've had to switch to Afrihost I will be cancelling my MWeb account.
 
Well cancelled mweb today, can admit they were good, but I need something else that does not solely rely on seacom. Thinking Afrihost, Openweb or Telkom. Wich one is the best? I noticed on my c24 gconnect account when there were almost no traffic going through Mweb that anything IS worked fast.
