MWEB ADSL network changes

Telkom infrastructure out of capacity

The MWEB CEO pointed out that there has also seen significant changes on the Telkom network as
Telkom upgrades their network for higher speeds.
“With all the changes that do occur downstream from MWEB it is sometimes difficult to pinpoint problems."

There are a number of Telkom exchanges that are out of capacity.

Not defending MWEB, but the problem is not always with the ISP.

I'm very happy with the article... Its not like rpm has the answers, but what he has effectively done is brought the issue out into the public at last... Hopefully its enough to cause MWEB to start worrying about their bottom-line and actually get around to fixing it.

A lot of people don't trawl through the threads on the forums. At least now the article is on the front page on MyBB.

This is quite disappointing :? I was actually looking to join MWEB. Ahh well guess I will go with Cybersmart or Axxcess. I am looking for a tier 1 ISP, to cut out any ADSL related dependency to Telkom. Any other ISP's out their I'm missing that can provide an ADSL circuit?

lol @ all the poor suckers who fell for Mweb's lies about this being an "uncapped" product.
You deserve what you get.
I feel like a real sucker and deserve what I get from MWEB - I only manage to "suck" down +50GB per month :D

Wow, thats nothing. Would be better to get a 50gig capped account imo. With Openweb I do 20gigs a day using p2p only.

And what I reckon is happening atm, is they've sorted their routing in preperation for the IPC node in Durban..... but currently it just means that the IPC in Gauteng is a bit stretched currently.... hopefully the new IPC will alleviate some of the issues.

This sounds like a very plausible theory... Fingers crossed.

Well I've been with Mweb for 5 days now and I don't have a problem with the speeds on the 1 meg line... The only thing I'm disappointed in is the ping to LOCAL gaming servers. Having a ping 30 higher (hovers between 80 and 95) than everyone else sucks. Really, its LOCAL.

My solution - cancellation letter.
Will sign up again when these 'upgrades' are in place.
Im having ****ty gaming latency - and frankly thats not my cup of tea,

helllooo OpenWeb !

Well I still think mweb is great. 3 months ago my 4mb uncapped was running at 700Kb/s, and it was telkoms dslam overloaded. After numerous calls to a good telkom contact (I found by chance) in CT, she tested from there, called Pretoria to sort out the problem. The last I heard from her was that she has done all she can do but she does not see the problem being sorted in the near future. This really p1ssed me off, but has luck would have it, 3 weeks afterwards I was running at 3.47MB/s, very steady all the time and been there ever since. So, check with telkom before you slag off mweb. Regarding download speeds during the day, P2P are throttled to around 20 - 60Kb/s, but early/late evening I experience just over 400KB/s. Just a tip for you P2P downloaders, if you restrict your upload then your download is throttled to about 40Kb/s - nothing to do with mweb.

I don't have any problems with mweb, I also have a 1GB FNB account, a 1GB Afrihost account all saying unthrottled but my mweb account consistently out performs these even during the day. (No I don't work for mweb - just enjoy using them).

MWEB just SMSed me to let me know my cancellation went through. Yippy!

I'm also heading cancellation way - not because of the SHYTE service, but mainly because MWEB have the cheek to LIE to me about things and still accuse MY setup of being the problem.

I want a ISP to at least be honest and tell me they are catching on kak!

I do not trust or respect MWEB anymore.

So finally we have an answer as to what's causing the erratic speeds lately, network changes..

Funny thing is, everyone who jumped ship on the by now rather epic Mweb Uncapped feedback thread, will probably only have their notice period expire by the time it's all fixed. Then they'll be stuck on some other fake uncapped ISP for more money, oh the irony.

:-)

All the issues were not address. 0->5KB during the day for NNTP is not shaping, it's downright breaking it. Also, the "golden hours" seem to have shortened, 0130AM this morning i was still only getting 70Kb on a 4Mb DSL line. Either the DPI Shaper is out of whack or they've not provisioned enough bandwidth.

Either way, I dont think RPM put enough of the issues on the table, and Rudi side stepped around them. 820 odd page of complaints should be more than enough for a basis to report on.
Even the title itself "MWEB ADSL network changes" does not convery the problems users are experiencing which leaves me wondering why Mweb is being treated so carefully, perhaps the permanent Mweb Banner we see on the site these days ?
