The free modem is still being offered on their site.
Is this without a 24 month contract ???
If it is like that then the buyers must go for it.
I have an email from the product specialist at Telkom that said no more.

@Conspirator: You will have to check about the free WiFi router for self-install customers at a Telkom shop. Previously they did extend their free no-contract WiFi router with the self-install option. If you can't get the free router then this offer is not nearly as attractive although it's hard to imagine any major changes regarding broadband in SA over the next two years. Look around on Google for a Zyxel P2602 to get feedback about that router.
I don't think that the router is locked. The first time that I heard about a locked router was in connection with *MWEB*.
Another thing that nobody tells you is that routers seem to be more easily damaged by lightning surges than modems. Telkom also seems to supply some of the best lightning protection with their routers and appear to be quite flexible about replacing their routers if they stop working. If you have to buy extra lightning protection for a third party router this is another expense and you definitely need it.
lol. Now thats Chinese math. MWeb Offer is:
Month 1-6: R179 pm
Month 7-12: R219 pm
If I average that out over the year (So that I can compare it with other ISPs) it gives R199 per month. My post was a bit vague on the "year" part. My apologies.
Includes lockedmodem.
I'm probably gonna go with WA.
Csnoopy: Thanks for clearing that up. But wasn't installation at R404? Not that it matters with SIO.

AFAIK the MWeb modems are locked so that one can only use MWeb.placebo said:I was informed that you cannot run 2 ISP's off 1 router
I understood this part. Have a wifi modem anyway. Problem is I applied over 6 weeks ago and still waiting for the connection. I especially took out the 12 month contract because the industry is fast moving. Looks like in 12 months I will still be waiting for a connection!! I phoned M-Web and they were rude, took my number and didn't phone back. I e-mailed twice and got no response. What's the point of signing up for a service when they don't make the effort to connect you?![]()
