MWeb as ISP?

Stay away from MWEB if you plan to use the internet for things other than Facebook.
It's that simple :)

Hi StevenC

I respectfully beg to differ with you, I'm able to game, stream and do my share of downloads. ;)

In all honesty, if you know what sort of data you use for a month and sign up for the equivalent package, you shouldn't be throttled.
Also you can make use of My Account and to keep an eye the 30day rolling window data history.
So if things get to close for comfort, simply ease up for a day or so.

+2, its been a while since i was with Mweb, but from all the info i've been reading its still the same, they don't really accommodate heavy usage well, so yeah if you like your series and movies and occasional game downloads stay away.

i don't know what peoples problem with AH is but i'm on the 1mb business uncapped account, and i ALWAYS get full line speed be it only 1mb on average i use 180GB each month, on a 1mb line.

this month due to multiple game downloads my projected usage is 240GB, if that on a 1MB line isn't convincing i don't know what is.

Good evening

Im currently with Afrihost on 10meg line Capped 150gig**. I want to move over to Mweb, and need to know if this will be a good move to go uncapped 10meg line? I youtube during the day alot, and night time downloading.

Please advise

Chris

You should be fine. You might even get away with the standard package if the 150gig data allocation was okayish for you. I am on 4 meg standard and have been throttled twice and the next day it was fine again. Even being throttled I could stream to the television. Probably sd but it was good enough for me.

My threshold is 110 yours should be much more on 10 meg standard

Afrihost is a hot blonde hooker. You pay, she performs for a bit and then leaves and the rest of the time you're sat wishing she was back.

MWEB is a plain looking, dependable wife who isn't the best at it, but keeps you in a steady supply of nookie.

...they don't really accommodate heavy usage well...

You and all other quantity over quality guys should remember this.

Quantity is not important to most people. It's also what negatively affects my experience.

So please, do stay away.

Are you dishonest with people in general, or only when it comes to MWEB?

I only go on my prior experience where gaming was a touch and go affair every night, when they so nicely told all their clients that they will throttle them, when they cut off access to the news server. And still continued to charge dat premium price. Oh hey, torrents don't seem to work anymore during the day from what I have seen on the latest threads? So umm, when exactly did not being able to use the Internet the way you want to (and pay for) become a thing? 30 day rolling window? You must be joking. Enjoy your premium facebook ISP, I enjoy actual internet with my current ISP :)

Sure, there are definitely a lot worse ISPs out there. MWEB (when it works) is fine.

It all depends on what one needs the line for, its not important for most people yes, but we are not simply condemning mweb as a whole, but rather only if you are a heavy user.

i don't game online so i don't care for super low ping, i stream 480p with no or minimal(1-5seconds) buffering, i do however download all my games and series which means i use a lot of data, thus Mweb is not suitable for me, so i'll gladly stay away from Mweb.

Strangely enough, my quantity is not a lot. What I do want is to use my internet however I want to, when I want to. MWEB cannot offer that, contrary to all their adverts they run on television for their uncapped a couple of years back.

Wow, just wow. :)

I only go on my prior experience where gaming was a touch and go affair every night, when they so nicely told all their clients that they will throttle them, when they cut off access to the news server.

Gaming is not touch and go. Currently, the only forumite who has a problem with gaming, is Drifter. That's more due to his specific game, though. You're wrong.

I used to agree about throttling, I left them too. However throttle limits have been disclosed. Go figure.

I'm not a downloader, and have no need for the news server. But I understand how it's an issue.

Once again we mostly find that it is the downloaders who have problems with MWEB. Please go and do your downloading on IS/MTN/between 00h00 and 07h00 on someone else's network, people have more important stuff to do between 07h00 and 00h00 and they don't want you degrading their experience.

And still continued to charge dat premium price.

What premium price?

As an aside, even though you are wrong, I hope you know that in life, one pays for quality.

Quality in this case is not measured by being able to download to your heart's content. It is about connection quality, latency, consistency, reliability, etc. 24/7.

Oh hey, torrents don't seem to work anymore during the day from what I have seen on the latest threads?

And so? Who needs torrents during the day? Or are you wanting to just squeeze as much out as possible while you're AFK?

You're wrong in any event. What seems to be the case, to you, was in fact a 2 - 3 week period.

I fired up a Linux distro now for you:

You were saying...?

So umm, when exactly did not being able to use the Internet the way you want to (and pay for) become a thing? 30 day rolling window? You must be joking.

You can use the internet in anyway you want, it's just that, sometimes, you cannot download your media between working hours, and sometimes until the later hours of the evening.

Strange how this reminds me of policies of other ISPs, I wonder why.

Enjoy your premium facebook ISP, I enjoy actual internet with my current ISP :)

Thank you, and I'm happy you do too.

Sure, there are definitely a lot worse ISPs out there. MWEB (when it works) is fine.

Thank you, that is better.

Now tell me, are you and your friends going to carry on lying to the good folk of MyBb, or not?

:)

*edit*

Strangely enough, my quantity is not a lot. What I do want is to use my internet however I want to, when I want to. MWEB cannot offer that, contrary to all their adverts they run on television for their uncapped a couple of years back.

My post dismisses this notion entirely.

Perhaps, you don't download as much as I thought. What a win for you then!

Calling people liars while lodged firmly up where no light gets to is rich ........ get off your high Mweb horse. It's all good to have an opinion but when other people chime in on their shyte experience with Mweb, and there are plenty, maybe try let them have their say without being called liars. Geezuz.

Agreed, defending mweb by discarding people's experiences isn't the way to go.

But they are liars because they are not telling other people the truth. And I'll call them out for it and substantiate in detail. There's no need for your chiming in from the sidelines, let the debate continue as long as it is orderly.

It's no coincidence that MWEB was rated one of the lowest here on MyBB, just above Opensewer.

You are incorrect in believing that I want the cheapest account to download like crazy. I know that this is not a reality in South Africa right now.

I pay a similar price to what I would at MWEB. My gaming latency is literally the best I have ever had, with any ISP. I don't have issues where I have to reset my router or listen to SEACOM excuses (out of MWEBs control, ye ye) or suffer under a 30 day rolling window throttle which may impact on such latency sensitive protocols. I even get to download during the day (when I am at home).

Best part of it is, I pay for uncapped, I get uncapped. I could buy capped, but I don't like imposing a limit on myself, in case of a big download here and there.

MWEB goes in dry, you don't even get to bite the pillow.
