Mweb can you please increase your shaping after hours?

I'm currently on a 384 Uncapped package and browsing seems to be really terrible after 6 in the evening. The page timeout seems to be happening endlessly and it's getting worse.

Occasionally I need to RDP to a server or 2 which is also impossible to do.

Just for a test I bought a Afrihost 1GB account just now and everything is back to normal so it has to be a problem on Mweb's side.

If you need me to do some troubleshooting let me know and I'll help out.

Lolwat?

It's already shaped pretty hectically, I suggest moving to an unshaped package if you want to do "special stuffz".

My browsing / gaming is fine.

Evening The Guy

Are you downloading and browsing at the same time?

Please also Dm me your mweb email address.

Kind Regards,
MWEB Ops

More shaping :D

That's surely a first on this site

Hi Mweb

Thanks for responding so late in the evening.

I'm not downloading anything.

Sent you my details.

My thinking as well. Figured this was going to be the most controversial post on MyBB ever...akin to why I think we should turn off the interwebz (on weekends and public holidayz)

Haha interesting request. You should really ask them to increase their overall capacity. By 6pm shaping is still very strict for most P2P.

Lol, I can die in peace now - can honestly say I've seen it all ;-)

Your browsing seems slow... so you want everyone else to be shaped.

Holy testicle Tuesday!

I can live with Torrents being slow as it's a shaped connection but not being able to browse means I will have to move providers if we can't sort it out somehow.

Lol I'm going to take them to the CC because they advertise the connection as being shaped but at the moment it doesn't seem like it's being properly shaped :)

Hi TheGuy, I have to agree this is one of the oddest requests we've had in a while :) We really do everything possible to ensure that the P2P traffic doesn't interfere with normal activities and I really don't believe that this is the cause of any problems you might be experiencing. Have you looked at some of the more obvious causes? The destinations you are trying to RDP to might be hosted on a network that we don't have peering with? Could you supply some command line tests taken at the time you experience these problems?

To be honest your request doesn't make technical sense as all additional shaping will do is slow p2p etc down or reduce the p2p bandwidth pool. Non-shaped traffic ( browsing etc ) bypass the shaping rules and get priority on the network so shaping cannot affect it. I'd suggest do as Will suggests and send him some technical details of where you are trying to get to but for basic browsing, shaping should not be an issue at all, either on a personal or network level.

I think he's insinuating that the MWEB network is too saturated with p2p traffic that his web browsing experience is compromised.

But... for that argument to hold water, EVERY SINGLE MWEB CUSTOMER would have to be experiencing a degradation in web surfing quality after hours.
I don't think that is the case.

My skeptical and cynical hat is on and I call shena****ns! Someone is playing silly buggers! Hahahahaha.

I like his style!

EDIT: ROFL at "S H E N A N A N I G A N S" being cencored! WAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
That is hilarious!

TheGuy is in actual fact the other side of the coin. Maybe his problem is incorrectly identified, however, where most users are complaining about shaped downloads, he is complaining that so many downloaders are slowing his browsing. Very interesting indeed. Different priorities.

Yes but that exact thing cannot happen. P2P cannot affect priority traffic on a shaped network.

Hi Guys

The heading was meant to be a little controversial but I have been in contact with the Mweb rep and will do some troubleshooting tonight and then report back tomorrow.

Dude. Sounds like you are getting dns issues. Use google's dns:
8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4

Agreed, and that is why i said his problem is incorrectly identified. But it does create an interesting spin on the usual complaints of too much shaping.

Your right it could be DNS issues but it wouldn't explain why my RDP sessions would just freeze for 20 seconds at a time. I'll test it anyway thanks
