MWEB Gaming Feedback

Never mind, steam auto updated today, there is no longer a Beta!! my closest server is MWEB JHB. But now I don't see any servers in the server browser of Black Ops ?!?

EDIT: A quick restart and all fine !

Excellent - must say I'm quite impressed with Valve for coming to the party with this change for us so quickly - I was expecting it to take months :)

Hi all,

I have purchased Bad Company 2 yesterday (and was so excited cause it looks awesome) and after a very lengthy download (8.6gigs :O ) i started it up and wanted to join a multiplayer game (EA seriously needs to work on the UI and make server browsing easier). The only servers i could find that wasn't deserted were one of the iGame servers, so i joined and i was kicked soon afterwards (no idea why, at the time). I later tried again and was able to play like 5 mins before being kicked again. But while i was playing I had a look at my ping and it was between 250 and 400ms :O Holy crap!

Thats insane! So i tried again this morning and same thing, 300-400ms ping!

I searched this thread for "Bad Company" to see if anyone else had the same problem as me and it seems it's only me :(

I have a Mweb 4mbps line. Could it really be a graphics card issue as someone stated here? I have a Nvidia 8600GT and run the game on default setting except for resolution which i set to 1920x1080.

PS: Can any suggest a place to find servers? I have HLSW and Xfire installed and use gametracker.com to find servers. All i could find were the Igame ones... Is that the only local servers for Bad Company 2?

PPS: I also play Team Fortress 2 and no problems there whatsoever! I play on the IS - Rocking the Vote servers or something :D Any other server suggestion for this game as well?

Thanks for any help :)

EDIT: While I am in the server browser it says ping = 16ms for the one and 88ms for the other server. But when i enter the game it's 200+ ms :(

In the server screen search for "SGS BF", the SGS servers were usually the most active local servers last time I played, but i haven't played in ages. Also if you're immediately kicked it could be because you may require punkbuster to play on that server. You can google and download punkbuster, it's pretty quick and easy. Good luck :)

Lol, really? Didn't know. I thought it could :( But i set the resolution to 1280xsomething and same issues.

On Wage's page under BC2 all server are down :(

Cool, thanks i will search for them :) I do have punkbuster installed (it installed with the game).

Is there any patches i need for BC2? Maybe that can cause the kicking as well? I doubt it cause Steam is set to update the game automatically.

EDIT: I searched 'SGS BF' a lot of servers came up but all had ping 999. lol

sgs always show 999 on any isp, its a bug :P ( you will lagg there ,because telkom don't peer with mweb)

yes wage show offline on website, it is online in game, just filter by africa.

patches should be downloaded when you enter the game so you should have it :)

lol too many bugs ! :)

Will check out wage's servers :)

awesome thanks angle :D

I know it's still new, but any chance of some optimizations for Rift now that it's out?

Thinking of changing to 4mb uncapped with Mweb but wondering after how long id get shapped. as with my current isp i download maybe 1gb and they get all raged and throttle my line. and i cant raid anymore. and its really getting annoying.

so my question is

What are the throttling thresholdes

yes you cant and go do 600gb a month, then you will get banned.

keep under 300gb i say , and don't bypass shaping etc, then will have good experience.

by you saying they dont on usage. i take it they do on something ?
They just shape quite heavily all the time on everything except browsing. There is some relief after 1am or so, but Rapidshare is throttled most of the day, along with torrents.

To get the most out of Mweb, you have to leave it on all day and all night. Just make sure you don't use a laptop - it will kill it.

so lets say i download about 100 gigs for the entire month , will i still have a latency ( world lat ) under 300 on wow with lowerping ? , kinda my main reaosn :P as i still want to see my series :(

yea :( , really annoying having a delay when you gotta move out of things fast or kite. ( parasites on magmaw being kited by a hunter with lag = fun!!! )

They won't ring you to complain. It's just difficult to get the most out of your line with this ISP. Also, if you are downloading something, gameplay is impossible. One activity tends to affect anything else you do quite dramatically.

Hi tooone7

A couple of pointers for you regarding BC2.

Firstly if you're getting kicked consistently early on in the game you probably need to manually update your Punkbuster, for some reason it doesn't always take properly with the BC2 install. You can find the manual setup files here:

http://www.evenbalance.com/index.php?page=pbsetup.php

Regarding finding the correct servers to play on a few things you should know:

Unfortunately SAIX have still not established a peering relationship with us so the SGS servers will not be playable for you.
WAGE servers will work well for you if you are in Cape Town, if you are in JHB again there is no peering as Web Africa do not a have a physical network presence up there for us to peer with.
iGame should generally work fine no matter where you are although the servers themselves can be laggy at times.
The ingame pings generally do report substantially higher values than the server browser values.

As an MWEB customers there should be some other choices available to you very soon, keep an eye on that server list :D

Lounger please don't misquote our policies.

We give priority to all traffic which is not classed as P2P, which covers browsing, mail, ftp, streamed video and gaming to mention the most obvious choices.

Traffic which is classed as P2P and therefore shaped, is all swarm based filesharing protocols (eq bittorrent), NNTP, one-click-hosting/dropbox sites, such as rapidshare and known providers of seedbox, torrentflux and other unshaping vpn type services.
