Mweb Local Uncapped Trial

I'm not concerned about this month but since they've said that they will be capping local from next month it will be interesting to see who has actually cancelled their account and who is just talking about it.

Remember, mweb is one of those companies who wants a month notice. I've cancelled mine but if they backtrack then I'll be more than happy to rescind it.
 
i was told i used my 10 gig local only and iam capped can only check email and that.

but now where is everyone going??????

and i got a 4mbline sooo 30 gig accounts but the end of the month will come up to alot i mean by the price o_0
 
is is not illegal to cap local? I thought regualtions stated local MUST be uncapped? can we not go to the media with this?
 
the media knows this they must do ... otherwise it would have been forced for isp's to offer uncapped local already

With an Mweb 1gig account, once it is capped you will be given 10gig of free local bandwidth. Once this 10gig local is used you will be completely capped for the rest of the month, unless you purchase a booster from our accounts department.

It's basically the same thing Telkom did, but I dont know about the cutting you off completely part.

Didn't someone here do 25GB already?
If they don't actually cut you off... and they don't say they'll bill you, continue to RAPE the local BW!!!!!!!!

If their software doesn't cut you off, it's not YOUR problem ;)

Telkom at least warned you!

They said it's being put into effect from next month. That's how guys are still getting more than 10GB local per 1GB blended.

and now i got this email (and this is the local bandwidth limit reached email, no jokes):

Dear MWEB Member


We would like to notify you that you have now used 100% of your monthly 1 GB ADSL cap. Your ADSL Internet access to international websites, services and content has been stopped. You will however still have access to local (South Africa-based) websites and your MWEB e-mail account (you can send and receive e-mail regardless of its origin or destination).

If you would like to access international websites after your base cap has been reached, the following four options are available to you.

firstly ... that is plain wrong to do advertise something (uncapped) and then start capping people. They should have at least taken the advertising off first ... then send a warning mass email with a months notice ... and then implement their capping policies

What do you guys think about this??
 
sooooo its pointless now having a 4mb line now unless u have the money to blow on all the 30 gig accounts it will use

thats what i heard/understood aswell. if theyre gonna cap your local, why would anyone want to pay twice as much than what mr t charges for the same amount?

Back to openweb, but seriously, I upgraded to 4mbit because of the uncapped, I use 6.5GB a day so I mean, what's the point it's too expensive now
 
MWEB launched this uncapped local promotion in response to TI providing 10, 20, 30 gb caps on their accounts, and are now falling back to a product which offers less value than TI at a higher price. The TI accounts are cheaper and they also allow you some leverage to use x amount above your cap before being charged for the bandwidth.

It just doesn't make sense for them to provide an inferior product, since the users who signed up especially for it, and brought in new revenue for MWEB, will now simply switch to TI or a cheaper, higher cap IS package.

I guess my decision to switching will be based on whether they charge cheaper 'out-of-cap' rates than TI, but we'll see next month :(

I would also hope that they update their website with immediate effect as to not mislead new customers from signing up with the intention of benefiting from an unlimited local cap.

Did u guys really think they would leave it uncapped if there are people pulling like 200-300GB a month? It's pretty reasonable for them to stop it... I really don't see the sense in totally abusing the cap... u guys messed it up for us who just wanted some "cheaper than Telkom" local bandwidth...

Like Agent Smith said... Humans are pretty similiar to viruses... lmao
 
Just got this email response from mweb!

Dear Eugene

Thank you for your e-mail.

The trial period for the uncap local bandwidth is over. MWEB provided
uncapped local-only access on a trial basis in 2008, during which time
we absorbed the cost of all the additional local-only data usage we
provided. Our records show that the vast majority of customers consume
less local-only data than the local-only usage limits that will apply to
their particular ADSL products.

Although the trial period is over, we will provide usage limits for the
local-only data added onto our blended ADSL products. For example, 1GB
will get 10GB local.

Should you exhaust your Local only cap, the account will be hard capped
until the beginning of the following month and no cost should incur. You
can purchase a 1GB booster but no local bandwidth offering have been
presented yet.

dang, that sucks Donkey Balls. five more months until Seacom :( I thought they might keep it running until Seacom went live.

Glad to see that he admitted though that the vast majority of people never used that local. So why can't they let us use it? :mad:

* This is to conform with recent regulations issued by ICASA regarding the provisioning of ADSL services."

Which seems completely at odds with the idea of capping local bandwidth, which is clearly illegal under the regulations.
