I cannot verify this or prove it wrong! :p

I have seen nothing in the e-mail or on their website.

My guess is M-Web will keep it going until Seacom goes live or until they get more of their own backhaul bandwidth going. Then it will become a permanent fixture. :)

So did they stop the trial? Not according to their website.

Worried about them charging you for "excess" local usage? They kind of remove that possibility with this claim:

Option 2: ADSL data cap (if you already have an existing ADSL line)

One of the biggest advantages of ADSL is that you will be charged a flat monthly rate - so there will be no more nasty surprises on your telephone bill. To work out how much ADSL would cost you each month for Option 2 you need to add:
The Telkom ADSL line rental
+
The MWEB fee for your chosen data cap

so i get an sms and an email from mweb today to tell me that i have reached my local cap. reached my local cap!?!?!?! so i get on the phone with the sales and tech dept. and they tell me yes, its a 10gb local cap and its ALWAYS been like that. i was like ALWAYS?!?! NEVER!!! so i got a supervisor on the phone. he said that unlimited local usage IS STILL in usage. he tells me he's gona refresh my account and i should have local access again within 30 mins. i will try and post an update in 30 mins to confirm whether or not i have local access again,

my local access is back after the 30 min time period stipulated by mweb. so back in action, thank goodness. once again, i'm very impressed with mweb's service. thanks mweb for setting the standard :)

"You have used 293.90 MB of 10 GB Local Only Cap (3%)"

Nope they're capping local now. =/

Thank God otherwise I would have cancelled my account with them

hmmm... to be honest, i dont really know whats happening. seems a little suspicious though that a few of us now have meters on our local bandwidth. it worries me.

Yep they are capping local now. It looks like you get 10 gigs local for every international gig that you pay for.

10gb for 1gb
20gb for 2gb
and so forth.

I will also be canceling if they start capping us. I just got this in the mail...

subject: You have used 30% of your ADSL local only cap

Dear MWEB Member

We would like to notify you that you have used approximately 30% of your monthly 3 GB ADSL cap. You have -9603104717 BYTES of your 3 GB ADSL monthly cap remaining. If you exceed your 3 GB ADSL monthly cap and choose not to increase it for the remainder of this month, your ADSL Internet access to international websites, services and content will stop. You will however still have access to local (South Africa-based) websites and your MWEB e-mail account (you can send and receive e-mail regardless of its origin or destination).

If you would like to access international websites after your base cap has been reached, the following four options are available to you.
What are your options?

Switch over to usage-based, out-of-cap billing

The advantage of this is that your Internet access will continue without interruption after you have reached your cap, and you will only pay for the additional data that you use. This change will come into effect immediately. Simply click here or call us on 08600 32000 during office hours.

Buy a Booster

This could be a more cost-effective option if you still plan to use a lot of data before the end of the month e.g. a 1Gig booster will cost the same as 500MB of usage-based data, so you get twice as much data for the same price. Visit MyAccount or call us on 08600 32000 during office hours. NEW! - If you do not use your entire Booster during the month, it will be carried over and you can use it in the following month (only valid for the next month).

Upgrade permanently

If you want to upgrade to a higher cap or take out a second ADSL subscription, please dial 08600 32000 during office hours.

Dial up with a regular modem

You can connect to the Internet using a regular analogue dial-up connection at standard call rates. This is a good backup option should you not wish to boost or upgrade yet.

Visit https://myadsl.mweb.co.za to view detailed ADSL usage information.

Should you have any further queries in this regard, you are welcome to contact our Sales team at 08600 32000 during office hours.

Kind Regards

MWEB Operations

Very confusing.... why tell me I have used so much... If I am still going to have access to local only websites.

Last month I pulled 245 GB by the way. :D

yaaaa if they start to cap like that then telkom accounts are better and i would probably go for one from telkom rather.

Mweb no longer has uncapped local, sorry mweb but you just lost atleast about 4000 customers:/ thanks for the bandwidth though got 280GB for R450 :D
