Mweb Local Uncapped Trial

was local sites are you able to seed from though? What is the point of local uncapped?

eufa.com runs on local - plus all the vids are local as well.
radio streaming (for those of us who dont have hifis)

etc etc

there are actually quite few things you can do - go to locallist.co.za

Come 31 March. Bye Mweb. R145 for 10GB of local when I can get the exact thing from Telkom for R79. Sorry but you suck

Everyone who will be canceling their accounts needs to sign the petition so MWeb can see how many customers they stand to loose.

at 10Gb x +-R15 per local gig wholesale price from Saix I cant see why they left it uncapped for so long, they must have lost millions. 4000 ab-users with an average of 30gb abuse usage over 12 months less subscription fees: 4000X30GbX12XR15 - (4000x12xR145) = R21,600,000 - R6,960,000.

So they paid 15 million big ones to for us to abuse. Well it was nice while it lasted. Feb was particularly good = 1.6Tb :D

I think if we threaten to cancel they will smile and wave us good bye :(

mweb are not cancelling their uncapped local and they not going to be charging extra either according to mybroadband news article

its silly to asume they wont start charging a rate per gig over allowence sometime in future. the only thing in this world that costs nothing, is nothing...
i dont agree that they pay +-R15 per gig though, remember the supplier does the persian hanshake with selected isp's. my hope is that now the isp's will start fighting dirty over who can offer us the better deal. this may very well have been the first strike in the bandwidth war we have all been wishing for.:)
with that said, now is the time to keep your guard up more than ever, still stay far away from contracts with anyone

bollocks to the R15/gig wholesale. Axxess is R10/gig when you take a set amount monthly. R12 when you buy prepaid. I's reckon its at R3 or less, depending on the deals and who is doing the "persian" handshake. Also, most people (as stated by MWEB) do not go over. One person using 100gigs will be dwarfed by the 10 or so users not exceeding their international allowanes (onan average of 20gigs)...

Did u guys really think they would leave it uncapped if there are people pulling like 200-300GB a month? It's pretty reasonable for them to stop it... I really don't see the sense in totally abusing the cap... u guys messed it up for us who just wanted some "cheaper than Telkom" local bandwidth...

Like Agent Smith said... Humans are pretty similiar to viruses... lmao
How is downloading 300GB on an uncapped account considered "abuse"?

You do realize that telkom also had uncapped local a few years ago? Uncapped local on their own backbone cost them nothing but they still offer a measly 30gig worth of local which is BS. Uncapped services are meant to allow users to surf with out having to worry about every little thing they download/stream. Do you know how big some linux distros are these days? its hella easy to cap yourself within a day just getting updates etc

So I pay for a 1gb account and can download unlimited local bandwidth (e.g.100gb of text documents from saix) with no nasty surprises on my bill at the end of the month?

If this is the case, how are other ISPs still offering competitive packages?

Thats the thing, they arent. Telkom offer up to 30gig local as does IS but for cheaper. ICASA stated that local is meant to be uncapped but MWEB is the only ISP complying. From what iv heard Saix is not pleased about Mweb offering uncapped local.

How can SAIX not be pleased? Because mweb are creating an extra load? If anything, SAIX should be angry with the thread on top of the adsl forum on this site about news servers (but lets not get into the 'sharing is caring' or 'don't spoonfeed the noobs' debate :)

I've been following the whole ICASA thing for a few months, and according to my understanding (no amount of dodgy interpretation should change this), local should be free. End of story. What people do with that, and how much they use is irrelevant.

I'm sure for every 1 SAIX leecher there are over 100 that use next to nothing of their account. This balances things out, but as usual the South African business mentality wants to squeeze every last cent out of us and offer the crappest service possible. Damn, I wish I was still in the UK!

Whatever, I'm getting me an MWeb account, uncapped local? Yes please! :)

lets wait and see what mweb does after 10th of April..
Yeah - I cancelled mine - with the 30 day notice period I've got until the end of April to rescind it if the status quo remains.

Why 10 April? According to the article on the MyAdsl homepage the messages users were receiving was an 'error'. Whether or not they were actually considering cancelling the local is irrelevant as they have now said that free local is here to stay.

"MWEB said that the situation was created by an internal error and that there is no change to the current uncapped local service.

“Unfortunately it was an internal error at MWEB that resulted in you receiving this information yesterday. Currently there is no change to MWEB’s local-only product and MWEB continues to supply the uncapped local bandwidth service on its ADSL products,” MWEB said."
