I like your questions... I feel that if they can lower the 4MB lines price and then also come down with the 10MB line to about R1500. That way the customers are happy, and if the customers are happy you have a fruitful Plan

Everyone complaining about MWeb not dropping prices on 4Mbps and 10Mbps are idiots. If you think Openweb or WA or Axxess or Telkom or your granny offers better value then please talk with you feet and wallet because the whining is pissing me off.
If you ACTUALLY thought any of the other ISP's were better then why are you with MWeb in the first place?? Why are you STILL with Mweb?? Leave the trickery to sanral, they're much better at it.

I am on an Mweb 4MB uncapped line - I changed over 3 months ago from Telkom. I am generally happy with the service, but I too, see no reason why Mweb can't reduce the price for 4MB users as well. What also gets my goat, is that Telkom no longer even have a 4MB offering - it's "up to 10MB". Like I said, I was with Telkom and I know my exchange supports higher speeds, because I was on an 8MB connection with them. I took a reduction in speed (by half) to have uncapped. So, Mweb, why can't you up your 4MB to the highest speed that each client's exchange can handle (if you don't won't to reduce 4MB line pricing)?

I have the same setup and my exchange is also on 10MB. This would be milestone to have 10MB uncapped line for R899 all inclusive but its not going to happen anytime soon. I think the cheapest 10MB uncapped is now R1649. What I dont get is that the other ISP dropped the 10MB and 4MB uncapped line price so why is Mweb still the 4MB line still the same?

So mweb Says that they not going to drop their price on the 4MB uncapped line because its already competitive. Just did a quick search and you tell me!!!
I see what you are saying - Mweb are in fact the 2nd most expensive 4Mb uncapped on the market. Well, what now Mweb?
ergh.. i've tried all the others and they cant even come close to mweb. mweb is truly uncapped. I get full speeds 24x7. on any of the others the shaping during the day is terrible

Maybe because that would cost them a huge amount?!? up to 4Mbps uncapped vs up to 10Mbps - there is a bit of a difference in the amount of data you can push through - that and those are typically your heavy users who burn huge amounts of bandwidth. I would love to see them drop the price, but I can understand why they are not doing it currently.
So a few guys are a few R cheaper, what about the quality? The Openweb account is the crap version, Imaginet and Axxess - anyone really have more joy on them vs MWEB? Recently some of the costs were actually made public - the old IPC cost was R2000 per Mbps before the decrease, so depending exactly how it was worked out (as in if Telkom pulled some clever accounting) we can assume it is now R1400 (prob ex VAT). That means for your 10Mbps account the IPC cost alone is R14 000 uncontended. Then add Seacom bandwidth @ R700/Mbps, so R7000, facility costs, metro fibre, internet exchange costs and so forth and it adds up.
The IPC and international for 10Mbps is R21 000, if you contend that 20:1 it costs R1 050. You want it for R499 WITH all the other costs??? The only way you are going to get that currently is with a provider that does a lot more contending, so you probably aren't going to be getting 10Mbps anyway.

Those figures means jack***** to the average joe who has internet. we compare ourselves to other african countries, i am not even talking about the rest of the world. you can keep on babbling about how much Telkom and ISP's pay, but you forget one thing that it must be affordable to the man in the street.

I am quoting what the ISPs are forced to pay Telkom - after the current price reduction international bandwidth is still half the price of JUST the IPC portion (connection from Telkom to ISP essentially) which is ridiculous. My point was just the ADSL ISPs are in a very competitive market and don't have that much room to manouvre - look at Openweb which is basically a one-man band - even they can't really do anything spectacular due to the inherent Telkom costs.

Telkom is not going to drop its R152 line rental and you asked the ISP's to drop their prices to below 150 for a 1MB line. They just dropped there prices to R199 so this is not going to happen anytime soon. I think once the Bitstream coming onboard we should see a price drop on the 4MB lines and that is if this does take place... it will only happen around the end of the year. I dont see the ISP's dropping the price of the 1MB line again in November but maybe the 4MB and 10MB lines.
