MWEB reduces uncapped ADSL prices

Ah alright thanks for the answer even if it is mostly speculation. Was mainly wondering if a unique 2mb account would be priced the same as the pre-price cut 1mb account but I know there's probably an awful lot of logistics involved so I won't probe further until we're more solid than rumors. Thanks again to Will and Mweb guy for the response though!

Surely you guys must know something to pre-empt this price cut? What has Telkom told you?

Telkom were forced to reduce IPC costs by 30%. So they didn't have to tell them anything as this is public knowledge. Future line speed upgrades from Telkom have got nothing to do with the price drop on the 1mbps data product. The drop is due to IPC cost reduction.

Really MickeyD right now you guys know everything we do, which is what was in rpm's article yesterday on possible line speed changes.

384k to 1mb seems likely (we're all holding thumbs), 1mb to 2mb is rumoured.
Hmmm....

A user here posted in that thread that he has seen the testing for the 2048 profile change.

Ummm... No. You must have missed Mweb's announcement last week that they would not drop their prices due to the IPC price cut.

How much will 1 meg line uncapped adsl be with all the other costs included be?

Currently R488 (R289 ADSL Line + R199 Data) + R140 (Telkom analogue phone line).

The hope is that the ADSL Line part of that equation will be coming down from R289 to R152 soon.

On the Telkom line speed potential upgrade - it would make more sense if it were something like:
1/4/10+Mbps or
1/10/24Mbps
This would be in line with the new services MSAN offering Telkom is supposed to be testing, but then again it may also mean we are going to get a 4th ADSL product so it could also be
1/2/4-10/16Mbps+

They changed their mind then. It happens. Telkom doesn't have to whisper secrets into their ears in order for them to drop prices. The fact is that they are saving on IPC costs so they changed their mind and decided to pass on the savings.

True... I went and re-read the articles and they did mention that they may drop some products' prices. Nice one, Mweb!

LOL. All the 4meg guys complaining. At least can view a youtube video, or download a 200 mb file in one day. This is not so much a price decrease for 384k lines as its a speed increase. So stop hating and appreciate the fact that u can afford a 4 meg line.

Seriously? Lets do a bit of stats ..

1) Telkom drop is 30% accross the board.
2) ISP's claim that IPC is the biggest portion of their monthly expence.

Btw, did you notice how will@MWEB's already backtracking on that statement in his post?

3) MWEB therefore gets 30% cut of their biggest cost (accross the board & without lifting a finger) and all they can manage is a reduction of 1mbps by 33%, 1mbps business by 18% and 384 by 9%? In other words their three lowest-end products gets a avg/combined reduction of 20%.

How big a portion of their total range are those three products do you think? Did you even think that MWEB will be pocketing the 30% reduction on every single one of their other products, and you're ecstatic over nothing but a vague promise of an 'enhanced network'. Amazing, you guys have very short memories and you will never learn.

I repeat, despite your objections you're a pushover that love being screwed. You will continue to bend over until you learn what it means to use your collective power as consumers to fight back against being overcharged.

Might as well go out and buy those e-tags, Treasury did say that it makes economic sense after all!

Hey, if you don't like Mweb's offering move on. Nobody is forcing you to use Mweb.

@Mweb - Thanks.

Hey man, I'm sorry if I offended you. my last comment was rude and unnecessary, I apologize.

But yea. the point is, 384 HAS been reduced to R199.

From the article: "The price of MWEB’s 384kbps uncapped ADSL accounts has also been dropped to R199 from the previous R219."

If someone told you otherwise, they were confused.

Hey, no worries man. I was a bit quick on the draw there... :(

My apologies too if I offended you. :)
