MWEB reduces uncapped ADSL prices

I left Mweb about 4 years ago after being with them since they existed. I think its now time to go back! This deal is awesome

Im on 384 all-inclusive, what does all this mean to me?

Not much at the moment unfortunately (R20 reduction I think it said), unless you want to pay a bit more (to upgrade from a 384 line to a 1mb line).
But hopefully Telkom will soon be upgrading 384 line to 1mb lines for free, if this is true you will then be getting 1mb for the same as you're currently playing for 384

Ahk I see, but why would Mweb do this 2 months prior to a 'suspected' network upgrade? mmm

Spoke with a call center guy this morning.
You would be automatically put on 1meg next month. But your line speed will still be 384kbps until either you request an upgrade or Telkom delivers on that auto upgrade rumor of theirs.

This change is pretty great in itself (for new/existing 1mb users). and will become even better if/when Telkom comes to the party.

OK so I read the article and did not see an them speaking to the 4MB line (All Inclusive uncapped shaped) which is what I have with Mweb. So I called the billing department and they told me that they will not be reducing the price of there 4MB because they feel that their 4MB price is already competitive enough. ICSA said that there will be a 30% reduction across the board as the IPC was reduced by telkom.

How does this fit in with Mweb only reducing their 1Mb line? so they stealing from the other accounts so gain growth or market share. WOW!

At the same time they say that they are not going to give a reduction but instead pump that reduction back into the business and give better broadband, for WHO?? 1MB Customer? So Im sorry but there will be no reduction on your 4MB line. WoW! So I asked to speak to the Manager and he tells me, sorry but the manager is busy with an irated customer... haha Good One!

Excellent. good to hear confirmation.

I'm curious about what will happen to 1mb all inclusive customers when Telkom upgrades... I'm assuming the line will be upgraded to 2mb and the Data account will stay the same, and you will then have to either downgrade your line to 1mb (to get the cost reduction), or upgrade your Data account to 2mb (an account that doesn't exist at the moment, but I assume we be created)

MwebGuy ??

then stop bitching and downgrade to 1mb and get upgraded again by telkom(in 2 months) to 2mb.

Re: The 4 meg guys getting no reduction: If you go into Pick 'n' Pay and they have Ricoffee reduced to 99c, do you then demand that they drop the price on Nescafe as well, 'cos you don't drink Ricoffee?

On one hand:

Yay for lower prices!

On the other:

Huh, 4 meg accounts don't get any price drop? Sad face...

I only require local data for my needs. Wouldn't a local only uncapped offering be cheaper? Why doesn't anybody offer this?

I doubt MwebGuy will reveal his company's future pricing plans to us (and their competitors).

You said it better than I could :)

Yea, dude, the 4mb account is already a pretty great account. If you look at how much you can download, the cost per gig is stupid low.

Mweb have Made a big reduction creating a very good value for money 1mb account, and still people are doing a lot of complaining... come one guys, be reasonable.

Considering that it is local costs that make up the majority of our ADSL bandwidth prices, I wouldn't expect a local only account to be much cheaper. International access is no longer the bottleneck.

Faulty analogy is faulty.

If you saw a price reduction on the 250g and 500g bottles of Ricoffee, most people would expect the 1kg tin to also get a price drop.

Were there any changes to their 'All-in-one' price offerings too? Article just mentions 'data-only' products. And a table in the article would've really come in handy this time.

I wasn't looking for pricing plans, just the process that is likely to happen should Telkom do their expected upgrades.
