MWEB - SEACOM OUTAGE UPDATE

So when SEACOM goes down local sites are slow?

Well to be honest when i was with mweb local was always slow, the pings where stupid. And i don't exactly think mweb are routing traffic efficiently.

All I know is that Mweb is saying that local and email are all normal but they're clearly not.

Side note: I kept my Webafrica prepaid running for just these times. So I'm switching over to that until this is sorted. It's running smoothly right now.
Of course I'm not going to be running P2P or heavy downloads on that. Just nice to have uninterrupted connection.

Becuase your probally connected to a local peer.

i thought that but its someone in america that im getting 150 KB/s and all over the world as well, but im also seeding to alot of south africans (even though its not that fast-seeding)

I can't get in my gmail account nor facebook after the log in page. I was whole day on Facebook but now can log in.

from your cell dial...*003111*"home number"*facebook#, that should fix your facebook problem. (I joke)

No it wont sort your facebook problem his being sarcastic, at the moment all international traffic is down so facebook etc is inaccessable.

gmail not working... bummer!

BTW what happened to the bandwidth seacom was going to source for mweb?

Loaded my Axxess 626 prepaid account tonight since that goes through SAIX and works wonderfully. Lucky there were still 6GB left on the account. Looked at the topup option if I need it and horror oh horror, the price is still R55 per GB :D Shame on you axxess :P

Yup. I'm using G-Connect at the moment myself - Vodacom Business R30/GB.

Ok folks, MWEB works - 180KB/sec - while it's not as fast as usual on a single thread, it is 180KB/sec for an int'l DL. :)

Not for me. I've got stuttering local only and that's it. Just restarted router FWIW. What's the trick to getting international working?

As you will have seen from the article on My Broadband, TENET has been making some of their surplus capacity to us as and when it is available. That bandwidth (also on Seacom) is in itself quite unstable which explains the intermittent nature of our service today. We're extremely grateful to them for helping us out, they have put the best interests of the broader SA Internet community first. We're still waiting for Seacom to configure an alternative route that will hopefully give us the stability that we need. They had hoped to have this in place this morning already but it's proving to be more challenging than they originally thought. Let's hold thumbs that it comes online soon!

You need to take the DSL part out of your login name on your router and reboot ( assuming you are on Mweb )

*********@DSLMweb.co.za ( take out DSL ) so it reads ***********@mweb.co.za
I tested it and it works fine. seems you are sent via SAT3 ( SAIX IP ).

Not sure though if you will get charged for this ???

But you said SEACOM was down, so what's the real story?

It's like some of SEACOM is down, but some is operating intermittently. Some of those electrons are fighting their way through while most are just stuck.
