MWEB - SEACOM OUTAGE UPDATE

..does the Telkom's SAT3 cable experience the same level of downtime as the SEACOM one??

If it does it is far from obvious to Telkom customers. I have a Telkom account as well and it hasn't experienced any downtime for at least a few years.

Yip back online, international pings are abit conjested but I mean atleast most things are restored again.

Good evening all,

Message from Mweb ISP CEO "The prospects for the next 24 hours are not great. We have a very small amount of bandwidth on SAT3 which we are using primarily for e-mail, and there's very little chance of us getting more from SAIX. Some of our customers are able to connect via the SAIX Wholesale network but Telkom will not allow us to add any more users because of their commitments to FIFA for the SWC. SEACOM can get us about 50% of our total requirements through alternative carriers but this will probably only come on stream at about noon tomorrow. We're pursuing every possible option that we can and if the situation changes we'll let you know (via e-mail and via MyBB). I know we say this all the time, but we really are grateful for your patience during situations like this. Please believe me when I say that this has our full and undivided attention right now."

Network status updates here.

@MWEB Operations. It's quite humorous that the link to your network status updates in your sig doesn't work since it uses a tinyurl-type mechanism which obviously relies on an international server to resolve itself ;)

Thanks for the effort guys. :)

mine is locked...got myself another one to use WA prepaid :D

Thanks for that. Have managed to get through to MWeb technical who confirm that the modem is locked. The guy on the phone said I could download new firmware which would unlock it. That sounds quite drastic - not sure all the default settings would be appropriate? I'm thinking I should get a second modem for connecting on prepaid SAIX. Any suggestions on where to get one in Cape Town and cost?
