MWEB Throttling me?

MWeb seems much slower tonight on 4meg...
 
I'm on the same wagon as StalkerKZN and others. I changed from Afrihost due to they shaping /throtling (call it what you want) after 60GB.
I used Newsleecher to download from news servers that was the main reason why I got the uncapped account, lets be honest, I'm not going to get an uncapped account to download e-mail and do some online gaming.
I was most of the day on the phone with Mweb, firstly they were trying to tell me that it is Telkom when I explained to them that on other capped accounts I get full speed they replied that maybe they must re-activate(??) the account and I was asked to reboot my router after 15 minutes, but no joy. Still the same download speed with newsleecher, around 16:30 a senior tech from Mweb phoned me and ask what is the problem? I did explain the whole story for like 1milionth time. He said that he will escalate the problem... Than I asked him do you use mweb an uncapped account, to which he replied yes, that I asked him what speeds you have? He said that they test on 4Mb line and they were getting the same results as me.So my opinion is that we are getting shaped/throtled from Mweb and Afrihost but what I want to know is what is the allowed amount we can download via torrents or news servers I need only about 200Gb a month after that they can shape it if they'd like.
But in my opinion Mweb is very dishonet with their uncapped offering. Its like saing we will give you as much petrol as you like, we will give ou a Ferrari, but you can only drive 20km/h that is not even stupid but silly and missleading.
Well I know that there a always a catch to any deal....LOL
And as to StalkerKZN outburst well I can relate to that. Who ever you ask they just spin a story which dont make sense after while person get flustrated and angry.

Was working fine yesterday"

Replay:

"Hi there, did you check if you have engen? or maybe you dont have right key for the car..."

What would you reply to something like that?

"@#$%%$ $!@*&^) )))(*& %^%$$ !!!!! ... yes I do have right key..."

Sandmanm34 I dont know if read the whole story but to fill you in the speeds over http are fine but we batteling to download via news servers and torrents.

Fail fail fail.

Firstly , go read what you signed up for. You signed up for a Semi-Shaped account , meaning you WILL get better results on your torrents in peak hours on other accounts which are not shaped so heavily. This is stated very clearly in the T&C's .

If you bothered to do any reading before wasting the space with your post , then you would also have realised that MWEB has no fair use policy or connection throttling , which is why you cannot even begin to compare them to Afrihost. Further , if you paged through the MWEB feedback thread , and some of the other "How much have you downloaded" threads you would see that Mweb 4mb users are doing 100-200gb per week easily.

It amazes me how many of you sign up for something without reading what you are paying for.
 
Ive done 83GB this month and its going fine. Torrents are currently chaped to 100kb/s but I really dont find. Speedtest.net indicate 28ms and 3.5mbits. All good. I havent used the line for 3 days for torrents so maybe its dusty
 
Mweb service isn't designed for newsbin whores, My mweb uncapped gives me full speed on http, gaming is great, and a whole bunch of other protocols work perfectly. Mweb has applied greater shaping on news and torrents since last week. Probably because people are abusing those ports/protocols and going ape with their downloads. After all it is a shaped service. I have an astraweb account, it used to get full speeds very late at night but since last week it maxes out at about 350KB/s, my guess is mweb is trying to maintain a good service level for everyone using other more important protocols. So far they are by far the best ISP offering these cheap uncapped services. You are not getting shafted, they are merely protecting the network, after all if they let dload whores such as yourself run free the uncapped user base would suffer. Don't get me wrong last month I was a axxess 384 express+ user doing atleast 350-400gigs a month. and from what I've read I can do that on this service with ease for half the price. This service is not throttled at all it is shaped. theres a big difference

350 aint bad at all in my opinion. My torrents were all maxing out last night from about 22:12. Everything in my que finished , so I'm very happy wit this service.
 
Pathetic, its blatantly displayed on the MWEB site. "Shaped service".... not semi-shaped, or after hours shaped, or sometimes shaped, or if-you're-nice-to-us shaped, or complain-on-mybb-and-we'll-unshape-you shaped. You'll only get unshaped "feeling" when there is extra bandwidth. The speeds you're getting on 119 are related to that, consistency on 119 is impossible on shaped, so get outta here and get some reading glasses for the next ISP's terms you decide to sign up with. At least those technical support guys won't be as patient as the "moms and pops" type at MWEB.
 
Ya it would not true if he only had a 384 line but take say 11 hours a day at 400kb/s and work it out you will see it is easily done.
 
If these "moles" are trying to make mweb seem bad, they are doing a pretty bad job...I wish one could catch out these biggots that's creating the "unhappy" users and expose them. I for one will be signing up to mweb sometime soon.

Let's not make this a Nazi community. If people want to express their views they should be able to do so. In the case of the so-called "mole", the guy simply did not understand the MWEB T&Cs, which the community explained to him. Nothing wrong with that. I am signed up with MWEB and am very happy with the service so far. However, if this were to change, I would like to be able to voice my opinion on this without being called derogatory names. Let's not become fanboys of internet service providers please.

I'm currently waiting for my ADSL line to get sorted out and after that I'm getting the MWEB 4meg uncapped. If I don't like how the account runs I'll try something else. But I must say that I am aware of all the T&Cs and won't bitch and moan if I'm not getting full speed, especially on news and torrents.
