Had a peek at my usage stats at MWEB.
Looking at other's mentions, I have been a sweet user really....

Just got an Axxess trial account, torrents are running. Speeds are good.

Agreed. Although, the trial account is only 3gb which makes you wonder if it's unshaped? In which case, i wonder how good their shaped/uncapped service is.

I've already sent my cancellation letter through to mweb so it's time to start searching for a new isp. Just not sure where to go. Axxess, Openweb, or Afrihost.

I just posted this, I hope to get some feedback.

Though Afrihost is out of the running due to past experiences.

I am in the same boat (albeit not cancelled) - my choices are:

- Axxess (iffy right now, signed up till end of the month, noticed that my account is 'managed' after 3 days and 10 gig - although it's only for 'p2p, nntp, and http download- does not auger well...)

- plugg (based on feedback from others here - price looks reasonably good

- Webafrica

- Afrihost

Youtube worked before even when MWEb were running on 20% redundant capacity. Now Mweb are on 90% capacity and youtube vids don't work at all. I don't get that logic.

I can't last without 2 weeks of youtube while waiting for Seacom to get fixed.

Same here and the one Twitch stream that I watched from a guy in Canada ran without problems when we barely had capacity and now even the page struggles to load :(

The reason for this is because MWeb has introduced shaping. Seems to from today as yesterday youtube was fine.

From MWebguy's twitter today
We are not running at 100% capacity yet.Bear in mind shaping is in effect so priority will be given to browsing and emails.
and I always thought MWeb would never shape. If Seacom is running at 90% capacity then why the need to kill youtube completely? Something doesn't add up.

Seacom announced today service has been restored i.e. meaning they have arranged alternate capacity until the cable has been fixed. Ships are still being sent out to repair the cable.

Where did MWeb get the 90% figure? According to the Seacom statement alternate capacity should be fully working? I am guessing that Mweb social media guys made up the 90% so they can make it sound like they are improving even though they don't know how to fix the packet loss problem.

I am guessing MWeb engineers decided to look at the packet loss and decided to apply a hammer to the problem by introducing aggressive shaping killing streaming services but not being able to realize this measure is just a placebo effect .

LOL, right. That'd explain the lovely priority I am getting with Gmail.

Browsing is super slow atm....

Hi Qrox

We are now running at almost 90% of our total requirement with the Seacom re-route. We hope to have the remaining capacity in place within the next few days.

Asked my wife to check the connection at home, seems like its damn slow again, although last night I managed to download 6GB via Steam. Seems all very odd.

I've had 0 speed issues since Seacom solved the congestion/got MWEB more bandwidth. I did reboot my router though.... maybe that'll help you okes?

4Mb Uncapped speed test...........

Test conducted on 3/26/2013 3:54:31 PM

Download Speed: 328 kbps (41 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 601 kbps (75.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 198 ms

So MWEB now is back to 90% capacity? Yeah right!!

Downloads are a weeny bit slower than usual, browsing is slow on some sites but generally fine
