MWEB Uncapped ADSL Feedback - Part 3

Mweb haven't told us what amount of usage now constitutes 'abuse' therefore we don't know how to stop this 'abuse' without altogether not using the Internet. It's arse about face. I see mweb as a lost cause now, they can't even distinguish between premium uncapped and standard uncapped because both services are throttled and shaped, and there is no way they can prove different thresholds without disclosing said thresholds.

i agree 100% And if they come up with a number or a pattern or protocols , will you then say, oh , ok, i have been downloading the internet a tb at a time, maybe i must do this or that or stop doing that? Or will you just move on to the next isp?

And you think our own government can't obtain similar access to your emails on the Mweb (or other local) servers? The SA government is far more likely to be able to access your locally hosted emails than if they were on Googles servers...

If i said anything to that effect, please quote. I was asked why i think google wasnt secure. I answered.

You were actually asked why you think Gmail is less secure than other providers...

I personally will be moving on regardless, throttling is an unacceptable policy for me at these premium account prices. However the way they went about doing this, with no prior notice and no clear indication of the limits, is the part that really bothers me. Had they been upfront and transparent with everyone I would have moved on without a fuss :)

Also I think you're overestimating how high these thresholds are, I never download 24/7. I mostly watch youtube, download steam games, stream music, download updates. This month (with the steam summer sale) I apparently hit their teeny tiny threshold limit.

I would like to see the people who actaully thought about this to give me answers to my questions. Free of emotion and outrage and death and carnage.

I changed ISP's from Mweb to OpenWeb based on the fact that Mweb is refusing to disclose the amount that is considered to be abuse and that I must play guessing games every month on if I am abusing or not. Prior to the email last week I have never once received an abuse email from Mweb, this proves to me that while 100GB is abuse now in a couple of months time 90GB will be considered abuse and they will start throttling you. My other gripe with Mweb is the fact that they advertised one thing and after sucking up the money for a year they go back to what they advertised against. This tells me that they do not know how to effectively look after their network. Finally since they changed the terms of our agreement halfway into the month they are forcing me to have to pay for another months use before I can cancel if they were a honest company they would have communicated this well before the start of the new month and provided those users a clear, cut cancellation should they want to leave. Sadly Mweb failed to do that.

So to sum up. I changed ISP's because I find Mweb to be A: Dishonest & B: Incompetent. Lets see if the grass is greener on the other side...

Taking what exactly? I received no notice, and i am very happy with the current solution provided for the money i pay. I game, and browse. Since i do not torrent anymore, the games i download ( Mw3, black ops, black ops 2, borderlands, wargame -airland ) through steam in ONE month apparently is no problem. The big greedy corporations eh? Not going down that alley my friend, too many conspiracists and looneys in there.

"Please roll over and take it, we'd love it!" - i'm sorry, i dont roll that way, and even if i did, im not into lettting others watch, sorry.

"if you have done it right and not mingled your email or your hosting to a single entity" - So use supersafe and secure gmail? Or pay 3 different accounts to have a webite hosted at one place, my mail hosted by another and my ISP by another, and to top that off, pay telkom seperately for the line rental? NO. That does not make sense ( financially or admin wise )

"Again do you have these limits?" - AGAIN - READ THE ORIGNAL POST. NO

"50% discount for the first month" - and after the first month? Please give me the details, name of isp would be nice.

"You might as well be screwing people over youself... " - really? Resorting to keyboard bashing now.
You should stay with MWEB, you're the perfect customer for them.

Well said :)

I have been with MWeb for years and I am reasonably happy with their service, although I have been getting only about half of my 1 Meg line speed since December. It's more a Telkom problem, I think. But then I got this threatening letter telling that I my account will be throttled because of my so-called 'abusive behaviour'. What bothers me is that there is no indication of what I did wrong, so that I can change my behaviour. It's like a traffic cop telling me I will be caught if I exceed the speed limit, but I won't know what the speed limit is until I am caught!
The second irritation is the fact that my usage (never more than 150 gigs per month) apparently puts me in the top 3% of MWeb's users, although, according to a survey on My Broadband, 21% of the users fall between 100 and 200 gig per month. My usage consists of streaming radio, downloads and constant backups to Carbonite. I don't mind if my downloads are slowed down, but what MWeb does is to let the downloads go on, and slow down my browsing. Trust me, I tested this theory, and if the downloads are stopped, the browsing speed goes up dramatically.
The third irritation is that I get the threatening letter three weeks before the deadline, but the monitoring period they use is for the past three months. Too late to do anything about it now! And if I downgrade my usage dramatically, but still fall a few gig short of the unknown quantity, I will still be throttled, in spite of being on my best behaviour.
And the fourth irritation is that the threat is a thinly veiled advertisement for a more expensive package! if they can't even provide me with close to 1 Meg on my current line, what guarantee do I have that I will get anything better on a 2 Meg line?
Anyway, I am seriously considering going to any other ISP with straightforward rules that I can follow. Afrihost and Webafrica spell out quite clearly what they expect of me and what I can expect from them.
I really, really don't like to be threatened!

And i totally get the setting the bar a unknown height, but wait before you stomp off , well, i will anyways, as i am still satsified for what i get for the amount of money i pay. Just give us the total GB you use on average for the last few months and how many GB the "shipload" was you consumed else desist and troll somewhere else.

What about this question?

You were actually asked why you think Gmail is less secure than other providers...

Because i do not agree with you i'm a troll? LOL. Weak. Really. WEAK.

Still no data. Put your GB used figures where your mouth is let's see if you are "experienced" enough to even discuss this topic else you remain a troll in my eyes.

Agreed. That is exactly what Mweb wants. A docile granny paying pounds for peanuts and use 4M uncapped for checking boeties e-mail once a week and search for porn to satisfy or wake up the last pangs of the hormones.

So now you resort to insulting people who does not agree with you? Wow. I suddenly remember why i do not come here anymore. Infantile people incapable of having rational conversations.

Give us your data use in GB thats all we need to know and what package you use to obtain your services. That will determine your standing. ;)

PS I did not insult you I stated the kind of customer that Mweb prefer. If the shoe fits nicely then wear it.

Lol. Show me yours, i'll show you mine?. Mature AND well mannered. Watch out ladies, this one's a badass.

I went through their Facebook page and I cannot understand how the consumers are protecting these unethical practices. The only thing we as the community want to know is the limits. How many people protecting these actions are really MWEB Uncapped users or thinking that they do not abuse their uncapped package? Without stating the thresholds anyone can be assumed as a network abuser by the public. This is like adding a subtle VOETSTOOTS clause to the agreement. How come the public understands so little about ethics, worries me.

It is not about the top 3% users, it is about IDENTIFYING the determined 3% with measurements (parameters) not made known to the public, thus there will always be a 3% (or more by MWEB’s discretion) within the 100% not knowing who will be next in line as a network abuser.

All this means to me is that there will always be a top 3% to be skimmed on top, no matter what the usage.

This comes down that you can already be regarded as an abuser, there is people complaining (who received the warning) on the MWEB FB page who has been with MWEB only 2 months.

The MWEB Guy on Facebook is also extremely arrogant toward their own customers, you cannot tell a customer that their “Analogy is Flawed”, this is like telling them that they are dumb.

Please provide us packages which are suitable in relation with the top 3% abusers.

I really hope that it comes down according to law that these thresholds may not be withhold, it is really questionable that T&C’s (and all related polices) may have hidden conditions. Any MWEB representative should then apologise.
