MWEB Uncapped ADSL Feedback - Part 3

A mate sent me a screenshot of a speed test on his 4MB MWeb account over the weekend...0.25MB download, 0.25MB upload. 50GB usage so far this month. I sent him a screenshot back of my AfriHost account with 157GB usage so far :D

Good afternoon Lydon

Is it possible for your mate to send us his account details so that we can investigate what is causing his speed to be slow.

After being a loyal customer of MWEB's since the affordable uncapped craze started in 2011 I am sad to report that I have cancelled my account.

After downloading 65GB on my 1meg uncapped premium account this month the ADSL accounts page told me I am being throttled. No emails, no notice, no SMS, nothing. I was unable to play games last night, I was unable to even open a web page. So this morning I cancelled my account.

MWEBGuy, please tell your new CEO to replace all occurrences of the 'uncapped' word with 'soft-capped' on your website page.

OK. How many GB's for the various products?

I don't know we were trying to figure it out in another thread by posting daily usages and whether we were throttled or not but it got tanked when a mod merged it with an unrelated thread.

@Mweb Guy

How does Mweb suggest one manages their uncapped products?

Afternoon bekdik

Use your Internet network in a normal way; avoid mass downloading or streaming HD 24/7.

Know exactly who is using your Internet connection – if you have a WiFi network, make sure that it’s secure.

Right , cuz thats what an uncapped account is typically used for. I wish you could be banned from mybb, i really do

There's my problem. You don't know, and Mweb won't tell you. All Mweb has said is that the cap isn't constant between users. They also seem to imply that the rules can change at any time, which makes a mockery of all your guessing, as if you get close to the truth, they will simply move the goal posts again and the first time you know what the current limit is, is when you are capped. You cannot provision for it or manage it. Further, treating it as a capped account means you lose out further in performance, as you now have a shaped capped account of unknown size.

It does not compute.

Your response did not provide any managing variants. Normal behaviour is vague, thus unclear and do not establish any threshold perimeters. Naming mass downloading and/or streaming HD 24/7 are deemed unacceptable usage as suggested by the amended policy, you did state avoid in your response.

Elaborate on this usage term:

In a normal way?

Provide a statistical response (scope) on how one should manage uncapped products per package.

Uncapped subscribers want to accomplish desired goals and needs using available resources, to facilitate usage and outcomes from a paid service. These managing activities must be in accordance with certain policies and in achievement of clearly defined objectives.

Thanks for the response.

My normal way would be to download various ISO's, sometimes multiple times due to download failure, to watch various video streams such as Supersport, DSTV catch up, onlive lectures, such as those by Feynman, watch streaming news, download software to evaluate, various surfing, you know, the various normal things one does on the Internet.

How does this rate?

In Mweb's world that makes you an abuser and you will be throttled, simple as that

Probably, but does it not need to be spelled out as part of the AUP?

Frankly, if the intention of Mweb is to restrict usage, why not simply spell it out?

Why all the secrecy and double talk? I cannot see the business or any other sense.

Maybe Mweb needs to look at my signature ...

I'm on 1mb uncapped premium and I was throttled from the 15th after using just over 60gb.
My friend who stays in the same block of flats (so not even an area difference), who's also on the 1mb uncapped premium account was only throttled yesterday after reaching over 100gb.

There's been a couple of others who've also reported being throttled after 60gb and 100gb, so it doesn't seem as if there is an exact threshold because it's not being applied consistently...
