MWEB Uncapped ADSL Feedback - Part 3

My account is sooo slow tonight and I have not even gotten a letter from Mweb wrt the overuse policy or that I will be throttled.

How do I know if I am throttled or it's just network congestion?

Go to your account's "Control Pannel" on MWEB's site...and log in via MY ACCOUNT using your username and pass

PS: the username usually is your email address

Click on ADSL...youl see it there in BOLD as THROTTLED (IF it is)

LAST month...i was throttled on day 21 ( i think ) at about 68Gig....same thing...

The ONLY thing i can think of is, your "servers" are configured wrongly. I use a download manager with 16 threads.....BUTTTT....its the DATA that counts...NOT the amount of "threads" you use
( in my opinion )

Are you on the premium uncapped or the standard uncapped account? It seems you're on the standard one, so I'm pretty sure they're always going to throttle you around those numbers. If you're on the premium one though, then that is pretty dire usage to get throttled at!

i think it IS the standard one....but still...41 Gig? on day 12?...cant be THAT bad, can it? Cause i can get a CAPPED account at Afrihost WITH a 100gig cap + 10mb adsl line for only R697 which is still cheaper than mweb's...:wtf:

Mweb charge R449 for a mere 50gig cap...WITHOUT a 10mbps line

Kindly provide us these limits. You keep on saying keep withing the limits, but you forget to give us the limits.

If you need an example this might help:

Package: Uncapped 384kbps
6 hour limit in GB: 0.305
7 day limit in GB: 4.25

This will reset each 10 days.

ISPs that had rolling windows with clear limits: (Of course there is others who also had their limits clarified...)

Some of those "1.5TB" abusers:

IMHO I agree with DJ... and mweb should be boycotted as much as possible. They much like Microsoft with the xbox one wants you to just stomach it because it is good for you.

For those NOT in the know...Mweb's Throttling last 2 days. On day 3, youre ready to go...I was throttled BAD since the 12th of this month...today the 14th, i'm back with normal speed...

i agree 100% And if they come up with a number or a pattern or protocols , will you then say, oh , ok, i have been downloading the internet a tb at a time, maybe i must do this or that or stop doing that? Or will you just move on to the next isp?

It would depend if I could fit my needs into the mweb variables.
But too late now, even Telkom Internet is cheaper than mweb, and because they've disclosed their variables I can confirm they can cater for my needs without reducing my connection to 56k dialup.

Shaping is bad this morning, 6am exactly my line went from full speed to half speed. that heavy shaping for so early.

or I am now beening throttled... on a premuim account. . and didnt get a letter

Mweb reducing their members to live in fear of throttling, and to think, Telkom Internet provides a 10meg package for R40 rand more. Oh Mweb, how you have failed us

Was back to normal speed since yesterday for some reason. I am sure they were "testing" and "commissioning" their 1 September enforcement AUP structure live. There are just no other explanation for it.

Come on folks. I really think you are being unreasonable. And no, I am not a troll. Shaping or your throttling is dependent on the download speed of the package that you choose. If you choose a 10 meg/s package, you will be allowed to download more content. If you choose 1 meg/s you download limit is decreased accordingly. No one ISP provider can tell you what these limits are as they are determined dynamically. My ISP, allows me to log in and view my star rating. 4 to 5 stars is OK and I know that I am not being shaped. I manage my downloads accordingly. I selected a 6 mb/s package a while back even though my line could only support 4 mb/s, simply to lift the ceiling. Then the Telkom cables were stolen, I was without ADSL for a month, however since replacing the copper I can now download at 6 mb/s without any CRC errors. We average between 80 G bytes and 100 G bytes per month between 3 of us. My son downloads movies and does his own thing like playing games, steam etc. and I guess he uses the most. We have 8 computers at home and 3 laptops. These comprise of an email server, a firewall (Smoothwall), two desktop PCs which I use (Win7 and XP Pro) connected with Multiplicity, same for my better half and my son. Three Android phones and one Android tablet. Even with auto-updates on, we cannot get close to 200 GB of data a month.

Those people complaining about using nearly 20 GB of data on a 1 mb/s line are lucky they have not been capped in the past.
The solution is simple - upgrade your line speed even if you cannot achieve the bandwidth and the ceiling goes higher.

I am not with MWEB but with Imaginet, have been for years and I know what is happening as I can see what is going on with my account using their control panel tools.

You get what you pay for. Nothing in life is for free.

No I don't work for Imaginet. And no, Telkom manage my ADSL line - why on earth would I outsource that to a third party, who in turn go back to Telkom? Phone them on 0861111101. Anyway that's my 2 cents.

After reading all the compliants about this new throttling idea..

the one question I have now... Mweb Guy ... What is the different between the basic and premium accounts besides price, as you guys now will throttle both accounts.
