MWEB Uncapped ADSL Feedback - Part 3

Hi devdev666

In order for me to assist can you please provide me with your MWEB account details.

Dropped connections can be a result of a faulty router, filter/no filter or ADSL line etc.

Have you tested with the DSL cable plugged directly into the Telkom wall socket? Have you perhaps tried resetting ( not rebooting ) the router ?

Did you replace your filter or test the connection with a different router?

sent my details, will try your suggestions

The news server used to run full or close to full speed all the time, then all the commotion happened and for the past couple days I barely get 50kBps during the day.

Edit: 4 Meg Premium account and no abuse or warning letter.

Torrents have been extremely slow the last 2 days. Going between 20-45kbs even at night. Anyone else having this issue?

For these past few months my internet has been really terrible.

My latency for local gaming has been well over 120ms, which is rather pathetic considering i am using an adsl connection.

I have run the speed test on mybroadband to both a server in Johannesburg and Cape Town and can confirm that something is not right with my mweb account. (See speedtest results below)

I would like to know if there are other users who are experiencing the same performance on their 1mb uncapped account based out of Cape Town?

MwebGuy could you please assist in finding out the problem.

Speedtest to Johannesburg:

Download Speed: 255 kbps (31.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 397 kbps (49.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 125 ms
21 August 2013 11:15:22 PM

Speerdtest to Cape Town:

Download Speed: 325 kbps (40.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 407 kbps (50.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 81 ms

Why is my internet so horrifically terrible?!? Why does it take 6 attempts to load mybroadband.co.za!!!

Kindly provide us these limits. You keep on saying keep withing the limits, but you forget to give us the limits.

If you need an example this might help:

Package: Uncapped 384kbps
6 hour limit in GB: 0.305
7 day limit in GB: 4.25

This will reset each 10 days.

ISPs that had rolling windows with clear limits: (Of course there is others who also had their limits clarified...)

Some of those "1.5TB" abusers:

IMHO I agree with DJ... and mweb should be boycotted as much as possible. They much like Microsoft with the xbox one wants you to just stomach it because it is good for you.

my internet has been dropping muliple times a day for a few months now,can this get fixed please

Yours too? I've replaced my router, filters everything. Telkom have been out to my place a couple of times, still no joy. Last time round the techie said they will replace the actual board at the exchange, still no joy. Line tests 100%.

So 2 days ago I thought it was just a glitch/issue where I was being throttled to 256kbps, but now I'm 100% certain it wasn't!

Below is an image showing how I'm being throttled from 4Mbps to 256kbps, even after midnight! Click thumbnail for full size image:

Last month I did 100GB and so far I've done just shy of 60GB, which isn't even that much in my opinion, and already I'm being throttled to death on the 4Mbps non-premium uncapped.
I'll only stay with MWEB if they can guarantee me that I won't be throttled for doing ~100GB/month on their 4Mbps uncapped OR I'll upgrde if they can offer me 10Mbps at the same price and same (throttle) limit as Afrihost's 10Mbps uncapped!

At least Afrihost has the decency of only throttling you down to 2Mbps after hours, and not to a complete halt. I can understand a heavier limit during office hours.

Update:
Can someone also explain to me why I'm being throttled already, when the Email that I received stated:
Your usage is currently exceeding these parameters. From 1 September, if you continue to show excessive usage patterns, you will experience slower connection speeds (while we manage your bandwidth usage). As soon as your usage patterns stabilise your connection speeds will return to normal.

Morning Qrox

Torrent speeds are never guaranteed and will fluctuate through the day and can even differ from day to day. We don't have specific rules in place on our Network that says Torrent A is to be given higher priority to Torrent B.

Unfortunately, we are not permitted to troubleshoot issues related to specific torrent sites, due to the nature of the content.

Morning Gomzee69

There could be various things that could affect your speed. Please PM me the MWEB email address or username so that I can do a few checks on our side and assist you further.

Also, when running the speedtest, is there any active traffic running in the background?

Morning Lazy.Me

There are no reported issues in the area. I checked the account, please can you change your realm on the router to @dslmweb.co.za.

What is your speedtest like at the moment?

I am experiencing the exact same issues.

MWEB Guy,

I have emailed [email protected] requesting to move my line back to Telkom - I want them to manage it. So that I will only pay you guys R599 for the data and no line. The person helping me has seen it a different way, and thinks that I am moving premises and will have to email the sales department to reconnect my new line to MWEB's management? Please help! I don't want a new number, I just want to manage me line with Telkom and just have data with you guys?

No worries, I have confirmed that all is in order and that they are just migrating my line to Telkom. MWEB Guy, how long does it take for this to happen?

Morning Pada

I checked the account and you are on the standard uncapped package. Currently, the account is being throttled. Throttling will be based on the average usage in a 30 day rolling window.

You changed from the Premium uncapped ADSL package to the Standard uncapped ADSL package from the beginning of August. The reason you got the email was because you were still on the Premium uncapped ADSL package and the usage was taken from a few months ago. The email won't apply to you as you are on the Standard uncapped ADSL package.

People get throttled from 4096 to 256? Seriously?

btw, MWEB Guy please see my PM.

I thought the 30 day rolling windows would be active starting 1st September as per the policy?

Is this policy the same as with all “standard” uncapped products (Premium Uncapped ADSL and Uncapped ADSL)?
