MWEB Uncapped ADSL Feedback - Part 3

do they throttle the 4mb package cause I've done 70GB so far and no throttle

So am I understanding this right, Mweb's uncapped account has now become a rolling threshold account? giving a person a maximum of X number of GB (since no Mweb employee could give me a figure) every other day with no internet on the Throttled days if you hit the unknown threshold? I always presumed that Throttled meant they block peer to peer ports and streaming protocols but websites and mail servers still at least usable! So at the moment I am paying for a service I cannot even use even though by definition uncapped means in essence "You will always be able to use the internet" not necessarily for downloading

That sounds correct. No way of managing usage as the rules for garroting are not made public.

The only apparent way of remedying the situation is to move to another ISP, one who offers an uncapped solution.

Ok so im unthrottled again after my 2nd "punishment", will report back on monday when I get throttled again.

What really upsets me is that despite mweb's enthusiastic enforcement of their AUP, I have not noticed any improvement in line speeds. How they can justify alienating a large portion of their customers for no appreciable benefit (to the other customers) is quite beyond me.

This^^

I can honestly say that my Mweb account has been under performing for the whole month of September (Maybe even earlier). I have to reset my router almost every evening after I get home from work so that I am able to browse and watch youtube normally. I also have not been able to stream 720p clips on my 4mbps line without it having to buffer every couple of minutes.

No throttling has been applied to my account this month.
If this is the norm, I am happy that I am done with mweb at the end of the month.

Good luck

hmmm think i found the formula for there throttling on 2mb

(220/(total days in month))*Current day of month

i think the system on kicks in at 12am thats why you only notice in the morning :D

If your usage is over that you get throttled till your usage is less then that :D (Speculation but fits my experience)

It kicks in at 2am also that formula cant be correct.

Nah the formula is: determine how many people need to be throttled so that mweb doesn't have to upgrade their network, apply said throttling. It varies per day, but there may also be a profit margin throttling point as well.

Curiouser and curiouser!

here we go again. I can't log into any bf3 server and I most pages takes forever to load.

So MWeb decided to doll out my uncapped internet on a trickle-feed. This long weekend is going to be looong .

found this posted 8 months ago, was a good LOL
Police: How did Mweb die? Coroner: It seems they were throttled.

well, after four days of heavy throttling, i'm back to 'unthrottled' status. no doubt it will make the long weekend more tolerable, but low long will it last? mweb is the forrest gump of ISPs.

Make a switch to another ISP.

I'm curious to see who has had the longest period of being throttled by this horrible company. So far I'm sitting on 6 consecutive days so tomorrow will be a whole week of substandard internet.

thank goodness I've already confirmed my cancelation for the end of October.

I've been throttled for a week now, so just downloaded the cancellation form.
Quick question - the downgrade to the 1gb capped account, would I include that under the "I would like to keep the following products/ packages with MWEB" box on the form?

I'm not sure but I think it would best to phone them and do the downgrade that way (emailing them takes to long). when that is done send in your cancelation form. I tried downgrading after the cancelation form was sent and was told its not possible.

Ugh. Ok, thanks. I guess I'll have to wait til Monday to call them then.
It's absolutely ridiculous that they throttle to such an extent that I can't even load Google. Shaping would have been a far better way of managing usage.
