It was too good to be true. My connection was fine for a few hours after I had reported the trouble I was having and now its back to being a nightmare:

I've been having a lot of trouble.

I think it's Telkom, but they of course are blaming MWEB.

Okay, so before I get into it, one question:

Can your noise margin be influenced by your ISP?

Yes, or no?

Hi copacetic,

The description for the SNR that is provide by Telkom is the following:

The signal level compared to the noise level. A value above (the figure provide) indicates sufficient signal strength. The higher the signal value, the better. Does the customer have an electric fence? This could cause an increased in noise levels resulting in a reduction of this value.

I hope this answers your question.

Kind regards,
MWEB Guy

If you mean to say 'no, your ISP does not have an influence on your SNR', then yes, you've answered.

I would not have thought it would (but I have no clue really, how these things work).

My internet has been disconnecting every couple of minutes, to every couple of hours for the last couple of weeks.

Initially I thought it was my router, but I am now using an alternative router, same issue.

I've been in contact with MWEB and Telkom, both of whom acknowledge the disconnects, but Telkom squarely blame the issue on MWEB, and MWEB have (quite reasonably) advised that I try an alternate ISP (which I am currently doing).

This:

Was my SNR last time my MWEB account dropped. I believe 6 dB is useless, and will guarantee an unstable connection, if a connection at all.

Now, I am using another ISP, and so far things have been stable, and the SNR is sitting at 12, hence my question.

There were absolutely periods of stability with my MWEB account as well, so I'm leaning toward it being some sort of physical and intermittent (Rats perhaps? :)) issue.

Anyhow, just trying to figure this really annoying **** out...

Hi PerfectBlue,

The account and line readings are fine. Please see the PM I sent you and keep me updated.

This is strange, you are running via the same line, so for the SNR to fluctuate is weird. I will be logging this with our technical specialist and they will be in contact with you regarding the account and dropped connections.

Kind regards,
MWEB Guy

Great, thanks. :)

Bought a MWEB uncapped account.. simultaneously to my OpenWeb Gold - and I must say, MWEB you have redeemed yourself compared to when the uncapped service first came out. Quick support, quick connection, I'm cancelling my OW gold :)

I am very frustrated with MWEB
I have 1Mb uncapped - but I get a wide variety of speeds - from 180k to 800k. Average about 600k. But often so slow that I cannot work.
For the last week I keep finding that pages will not load - I keep getting told my server connection is too slow and the page will not load. The following message I have had trying to get onto this forum - took about 10 tries before I could load this page - I hope my reply will load!
The following is the error message when I tried to load this page:

This web page is not available
Google Chrome could not load the web page because mybroadband.co.za took too long to respond. The website may be down or you may be experiencing issues with your Internet connection.
Here are some suggestions:
Reload this web page later.
Check your Internet connection. Reboot any routers, modems or other network devices that you may be using.
Add Google Chrome as a permitted programme in your firewall or antivirus software's settings. If it is already a permitted programme, try deleting it from the list of permitted programmes and adding it again.
If you use a proxy server, check your proxy settings or contact your network administrator to make sure that the proxy server is working. If you don't believe you should be using a proxy server, adjust your proxy settings: Go to the spanner menu > Options > Under the Bonnet > Change proxy settings... > LAN Settings and deselect the "Use a proxy server for your LAN" checkbox.
Error 7 (net::ERR_TIMED_OUT): The operation timed out.

Hi MWEB Guy,
My web pages seem to take really long to load - yet if I check my speed it seems OK. Problem is worst with Chrome, but I have tested in Firefox and Safari.
It is really bad when I work as an administrator on my Joomla sites - server based in UK - not sure if it is an international problem. But pages just keep timing out. I have discussed with Service provider - they do not see a problem, I have optimised SQL databases - but speed still really slow - and the timing out of pages keeps happening.
Hope you can help?
MWEB account - alexius at global.co.za

Regards
Lex

Hey

Is EA Origin application being shaped? Right now, it's downloading a couple of ME3 DLCs at 20kB/s (384K uncapped).
