MWEB Uncapped ADSL - Official Q & A

I have the same problem, in fact last night I was downloading at 2.3k-- and M web is trying to tell me they have migrated my line from 384 to 512!! I am at the stage where i just shout pass me the wine bottle.

How can they migrate you to a 512k service when you running a 384? It aint gonna make diff... you gonna pay for 512 sub service from MWEB but still on get 384....

I have been reading all the posts since my last post this morning and again

1. we can whine all we want but still nothing is going to happen ...nada, niks, zip, f^&kk3l...
2. MWEB is of the opinion "if you don't like it then go some where else ...we'll screw someone else. some other sucker will come along.
3. AGAIN ...I have to say this, the ppl with lines >1MB cant complain cos they get speeds of 50k-90k download speeds but we ppl at the "bottom of the food chain" which just happen to be the bulk of the subs base have to endure crappy speeds cos we "get what we pay for" ...RUBBISH I SAY!!!
4. Those ppl who are telling us whiners to shut up, "adapt" and stop whining like brats...put yourselves in our shoes...what if you were being screwed like us? Why must I now upgrade to 1MB service to get betta speeds? BS!
5. There are ppl playing both sides of the fence, when they have probs that MWEB is the worst, when the probs are resolved, disappear then MWEB is the best thing since sliced bread. Please choose which side you are actually on and not just comment for the sake of commenting!!

I have been observing comments to this thread and others all day and have not said a word cos ppl are getting their backs up, go on the defensive and name calling happen again...

MWEB...lets face it...there is a problem. You've admit it! Now FIX it!

either someone killed a few hundred leechers or the maintanence did wonders

@ bradlesliect

the beauty of the situation is, when we finallly get the free line upgrades telkom has been promising since somewhere last year at least.....with uncapped the actual speeds probably wont change much if at all

i wouldn't call being screwed beauty...i call is low, callous, mean and downright rude!

Well done with the speeds, so this Sunday will the lines go down again? :)

When is all this going to just work? Seems every few days its something else. I swear MWeb used to have 99% uptime.

99% uptime still lets them be down 7 hours a month.

Okay, this month they have probably been down twice that amount, but it is still not bad for a best effort consumer service. If you want 100% uptime, you can get some redundancy by buying a gig of prepaid from one of the other ISPs that use different infrastructure. WebAfrica and Telkom seem to be working just fine.

It used to be a bit simpler when Mweb got all their international bandwidth from Telkom, who could do load balancing and fail-over routing. Now MWeb have to do this themselves over two entirely seprate networks (SEACOM and SAT-3).

The downside I'm seeing is that some MWeb international traffic being routed via AS6453 (Tata), which is working relatively well (even if it travels more than halfway around the world to get to Europe). The traffic that is being routed via the shorter SAT-3 link is very heavily congested, and this is where users seem to be experiencing problems.

It would seem that MWeb haven't got the balance quite right, and possibly the 'shaping' of low-priority protocols is not working effectively in this reconfigured network. I suspect similar hassles at first when SEACOM does come back online.

Which part of "Seacom maintenance" wasn't clear? I doubt that they have any control over the undersea cable.

Looking at the speeds, it cant be completed yet, was i the only one thinking seacoms web site would have up to the minute updates, or at least advise of the status.

Which part of "every few days its something else" wasn't clear? I am obviously not referring to this in isolation, but rather in the context of what the service as a whole has been like over the last month since its been around.
