actually cable thieves sometimes mistake fibre for copper, so they cut it down, see they cant use it, move on, then it takes a enginear and thousands of R's to fix it, thats y they had to start burrying it in the first place hahaha

International inaccessibility today

Hi All,

Today's international inaccessibility was indeed caused by a local fibre break in the core of our network due to flooding. This was compounded by fact that the redundant fibre path failed to work.

We are addressing this with our dark fibre provider to ensure a similar situation does not arise again in the future. We thank you for your patience.

I've got some questions:

what's the ping around for EU and US based servers?
(since I'm been playing with major 300+ ping/ms on Iburst for god knows how long)

Will this deal change under my feet? price changes inc.

What is the upstream of 4Mb/s Business?

Since I only noticed now that it says in the .pdf of home packages that it's 4096/384 (which is slower than the norm of 4096/512 or 4096/640).

Why do they fail to mention the setup fee of business packages are R1 500 anywhere on the website? but only stated in the documents.
 
MWEB, plz do something about gaming, seriously! Playing with high pings while being shaped SUCKS! Games take like what MAX 100mb per hour, thats not much, why shape it? (min like 5 mb/h)

Please elaborate as it really sounds like BS you are spouting.

Testing is performed with a OTDR which will tell you distance to the break in the cable. Once the physical section with the break is found they need to pull in some of the slack or splice a new piece in. After all splicing has been completed (with a fusion splicer) OTDR are tests are run again in order to ensure all is well and all ieee specs are met etc. Test report is later downloaded and archived.

Does anyone know when Mweb generally stops throttling or is it totally dependant on the load of the network? Why I ask is that we trialing the 4mb Uncapped account (i know is now 512) and haven't been able to get past 30KB/s all day. Can anyone shed some light on this.
 
Could not find the correct answers using the search function so here goes:

Can we pay using EFT? The only option on signup is debit order from my bank.
How does the notice period work. If I signup today and decide to cancel on the 8th of April, will I have to pay for May also or will my account be cancelled end of April?

Hi j@w,

Apologies, the documentation is being rectified. Just to confirm ...

1. The Business Uncapped ADSL 4Mbps package is a 4096/512 service (naturally max throughput is less the inherent ADSL overheads).

2. The once-off setup fee for the Business Uncapped ADSL packages is R900 inc. VAT if one is within 50Km of the 3 major centres we operate from namely JHB, CPT & DBN, otherwise its R1500 inc. VAT. The fee includes on-site installation of the bundled router by a MWEB field engineer.

Hi Armgame,

We are well aware of the sporadic latency situation, and can assure you it is very temporary. In a day or two latency & jitter will return back to acceptable levels.

MWEB - Since last night I have seen a marked deterioration in both latency and speed even to local sites. I am on a 4096 account. Any comment?
