MWEB Uncapped ADSL - Official Q & A

I am an existing MWeb subscriber with a 11GB capped ADSL account, which was automatically upgraded to Uncapped 384 kbps after April 1st. This morning, I attempted to upgrade to Uncapped 4096 kpbs, Data Only. I found the forms really puzzling to fill in. The only thing I can click on is Sign Up Now, then I have to fill in all my personal details once again (like a new subscriber), and I can't use either of my existing two MWeb addresses, had to create a new one. Now, when I log on to my original account, I'm still on Uncapped 384 kbps. When I log on with the new MWeb e-mail address I had to create, I seem to be on Uncapped 4096 kbps.
I don't understand what's going on now - do I now have two separate MWeb accounts? I don't want to pay for two ADSL accounts, I just want to upgrade my existing account to Uncapped 4096 kbps. Is there an easy way to sort this out?

I just figured out something on the Uncapped Subscribers Feedback forum which may be important to some users who are experiencing slow international traffic:

Older browsers (IE6, Netscape9, etc) relied on the proxy-caching server to tell the international site to keep sending packets, and not assume that the recipient was on a slow connection. This was certainly the case with MWeb using SAIX until the recent switchover.

I have two PCs at home (same ADSL line, but different operating systems and browsers), and have just found that IE8 runs about 10 times faster than Netscape9 (and IE6) for international HTTP.

I urge anyone who is not getting full speed on international HTTP to check if the (older) browser they are using is not indavertently causing slow downloads.

I have been 'complaining' for 10 days, but this is the first time I have had any inclination of why performance could be so slow....

@Mweb:

I purchased Mweb's 4096 Uncapped Data-Only Account on the 1st of April. I have just checked my Account Balance on the Mweb site. My question to you is, why am I being billed R1078.00 for my account? Surely it should only be R539.

Mweb charges you for this month and next month as they require one month cancellation.

That about right Mweb?

Holy cow, my Mweb connection is slow. Giganews at an absolute standstill. MyBB, Mweb home page and PCF have been loading for 15 minutes now with nothing showing yet. Afrihost gives authentication issues, but Gconnect flies. 4096 line.

If thats the case, then next month they wont deduct another R539 off my cc because they have already deducted it this month? If they double bill me, im gonna be so pissed...

I'm not sure how it works - I presume that if you cancel you don't be charged for the last month? I know it doesn't seem to make sense on a month-to-month account but this seems to be the way.

Yes - you do not get billed for your "notice" month.... they work their cancellations on calendar months ( i.e 1st to 31st )

Good question? I also do not understand this type of billing. You're paying in advance, it does not make sense?

My connection (4mb) is also very slow today, more 384 than 4096!

It does kinda raise the question of what happens if you hate the service... seems a little iffy to make folks pay for at least 2 months of service.

Mine is working perfectly, just dont like that they bill me double :(

here's my speedtest

Doesn't it depend when the payment comes off? If it only comes off 1st May, then I don't see the issue.

I would like to know if this is an error or the norm? As they billed me double, aswell.

It's not that they billed you double - they billed you for your first and last months. We're assuming that you will therefore be charged that amount on the 1st of May and then not be charged for your last month if/when you cancel. Dunno what happens if you never cancel :D

Hi there
I am running openweb uncapped through Mweb and my browing speeds are horrific, my webistes take 10-15 minutes to load, local and international and you tube takes 20 minutes to buffer a 1 minute video. Sometimes my websites dont even open. This is seriously pathetic and I reckon its slower than dial up at the moment. What is the reason for this?
Thanks

Did you complete the Mweb contract or just bought the 4Mbps uncapped via Openweb website?
