Well - if I get a 80% discount on a car - I'm still gonna expect it to do what its designed to do. Which is where the consumer protection act is going to rock.
<snip>

The dealer also supplies the road infrastructure and tells you when you buy it that, even though the car has a maximum speed of 200kph, when the roads are congested, ambulances and police vehicles will have priority on the roads, and at those times the car will only be able to travel at 100kph. When there are no ambulances or police vehicles and the roads are not as congested, then you can go 200kph.

I think the MWeb service is doing exactly what they say it will do. They've hidden nothing from us and have answered all of the pertinent questions in this thread, which they in fact started.

and yet we have a case of marketing trumping technical, its no wonder the public is a little miffed

Hi MWEB

Do you also throttle 384k accounts when they reach 15GB? if not what throttling do you have on a 384k account if you have any?
Hi Rashid,

No and none, just the protocol based priority shaping.

MWB.

Know when things might getting better? What do you think could be the average turn around time... 1 week 2 weeks? days?
Hi Ultradian,

As things like capacity upgrades are highly dependant on timely delivery by our infrastructure providers, we usually dont commit to specific dates, rather just a general timeframe.

MWB.

I suggest a retest. Something may have interfered with the test. Or you have an amazingly fast line, something like 14 or 16Mbps. What speed does your router indicate you sync at?

modem syncs at 4096 down/ 512 up, so no surprise there.
however, this speedtest was to the pretoria/midrand node only. the other nodes showed normal speeds.
anyone else try the different nodes and see if you get similar?

I can confirm, torrents are rubbish today. Getting speeds of 17kb/s on 4096 uncapped.... now I know this is due to shaping, but come on? 17kb/s? really?? Http is the only thing thats flying right now. Torrents are reallllly bad.... Mweb, whats the story here?

Murphy's Law, just as I am about to join the MWEB uncapped world tomorrow, the service starts to suck. I hope it gets better soon.

News servers were going at 50 kbs until a minute ago and I wasn't too happy, since it's after 19:00. Now they are going at 80 kbs.

Was it just me, or was the Mweb news server unshaped today, at least on cached content? I was going 420KB/s and all my downloads were done in a flash this morning. If you are using Astraweb, it is definitely worth adding the Mweb news server to your client. Just don't use it for very old nzbs.

It at least proved that local and international news servers are not equally shaped.
