It's only a lengthy post because I have to explain why you need to do what you do. Once you get the process right then it should take no longer than 2 minutes to queue up a download.

There's nothing stopping them from shaping PPTP/L2TP too (I'm pretty sure that Mweb has thought about this), whereas we know for a fact that some protocols are unshaped. You're welcome to try though and give us some feedback :)

Also when using a VPN service, you'd have to pay for the VPN account and a usenet account.

so your work around is not with VPN, interesting...cant wait to hear from you
 
Ok I stand corrected on the VPN thing, just tested it now with a VPN connection to my mate's home server running an unshaped account and it does seem to work. However there's still the cost of a VPN account and a usenet account - which would total close to R200 p/m extra. I'm only paying $10 p/m extra.
 
Personally the M-Web account is still a pleasure for me to use. Single thread http downloads are at full 400kbyte/sec. Video streaming works well as well. This all from around 6:30pm to 11:00pm.

Though I must admit, I don't do torrents (hate them) and NNTP goes via a personal vpn, although I've pretty much downloaded all I needed so my account is pretty idle now.
 
Hi MWEB.

I'm trying to upgrade my account using the Online Thingie (selecting the Upgrade Existing Package) and once I've 'logged in', it just says "OOPS. Something went wrong ect ect ect"

Can you confirm that there is an error with the online signup?

Just signed up and so far so good. Got my username quickly and am online with the uncapped.

Running a Steam download (L4D2) and it is cruising at 40kb/s.

I'm very happy :)
 
Ok I was able to sign up online, and was told that my username and password would be SMS'd to me.

Sadly, considering that we signed up to Mweb over 10 years ago, the cellphone number they had on record was outdated AGES ago.

Upgraded from Email Option -> 384k Uncapped.
Hopefully my login details are the same login details as my email addy.
 
MWEB,

Will Mweb cater for users that want Uncapped & Unshaped internet, but don't want to sign a mandatory 12 month contract and use a provided router?

I'm interested in getting a home account but I WANT unshaped, and will pay the extra.

Will MWEB cater for users like us that want QUALITY internet and not QUANTITY? Reason I ask is that the majority of my traffic on my ADSL line is online gaming, and line quality / ping's / speed is more important than how much I can download?

P.S I just phoned your business call centre, and the lady I spoke to put me on hold for over 10 minutes trying to put me into touch with somebody in the marketing department.

Yes but without the contract part, and mandatory Cisco router.

I already have my own router / modem setup, but would like a month to month uncapped, unshaped account for HOME usage.

I agree, i very big difference, last week was getting about 100KB during day, now nothing more than 20KB

Is there a problem with Steam? Shot home for lunch, turned my pc on, connected... all was well... But I can't log into Steam. Tried for 10 mins then gave up.

My steam is fine - except for the fact that I get kicked of 99% of the Condition Zero servers because of high ping.... not that that is MWEB's fault... latency they can't really controll all that much.

Same here. And even if I manage to log in, it disconnects after a few hours.
