Right. So I'm now connecting to AstraWeb at 3Kbps. With my 4MB uncapped ADSL line. Look, shaping is one thing, but this is ridiculous!

The key is too find another usenet provider. Astraweb is so well known you can be rest assured it's shaped as hell. I use to be on astraweb and was also shaped to bits on 4meg... changed providers and now its a dream

Is cancellation instantaneous on Astraweb?

My mweb 4mb is being shaped to ****, barely getting over 10kB/s on torrents this entire week, anyone else having similar issues. Use to be able to get 30-50kB/s during day but now completely nothing

This week has been quite bad for torrent speeds.

However, torrents are now actually working for a change during the day on a weekend (Saturday) like they used to. I just wish Mweb would stop pressing the buttons.

I signed up with Mweb this morning and not happy.

Downloading at 50-60kb/s on 4mb. Direct Download.

Is this normal or will it get any better?

Thanks

HTTP access/browsing/downloads are always unshaped AFAIK.

Run a speedtest to see how fast your line is. Check that the router is syncing at 4mbs and that your account has been setup as a 4mb account.

Depends on what you're downloading i.e. the site which you're downloading from. Stuff like microsoft.com will download full speed. Stuff like RapidShare will download slowly. MWEB RapidShare shaping is probably highest at 45-50KB/sec (lowest speed you'll get there).

It was from mediafire.

The download starts in the 300's and slowly just comes down.

Thanks a lot guys

MediaFire is shaped almost as much as RS. HotFile is also shaped but a little less than RS. MU is shaped but I just pulled a file at 227KB/s. Sometimes it goes at that speed, other times it goes at 45KB/sec.

Only on accounts that specify unshaped.

And on the shaped accounts where you generally get close to full line speed on browsing/http downloads. It might still be shaped technically, but the point of their shaping is to have http and other protocols at full speed. So a bit counter-intuitive there..

Unshaped browsing. Whoopi! Let's celebrate!
