Hi Adrenalin

We are moving our customers off the SAIX Wholesale network back onto our own network as part of our upgrades. Please PM me more details on the problems you are experiencing.

Kind regards
MWEB Operations

It's ok. speeds are half decent now again. And I'll report back on 1st October when the upgrades have been put into place. My speeds are very up and down though but i can live with it for now.

I got MWeb 384 uncapped in June, appart from the Seacom problem shortly after this it was fine, speed wise downloads were not lightning fast but acceptable. However it's now become a joke! I started downloading a file at my office yesterday afternoon and it was coming through at 30-34Kb/s, I'm with a different ISP at my office by the way. I was unable to finish the download before leaving work so I continued it at home using my MWeb connection. The exact same file that was coming through at 30Kb/s not an hour before was now coming through at 2-5Kb/s on MWeb! It even went as low as 0.5Kb/s!!
I setup my home router with my office ISP details and guess what? The same file now comes through at 30/34Kb/s! My office ISP is a shaped 5Gb, 384 account, so it's not that it's unshapped or something like that. I'm going to try MWeb until early next week and if it hasn't improved then I'll be sending them thirty days notice of cancellation. At the current MWeb speed I might just as well be on a 56k dial up!
I should also point out that I'm not a heavy user, since June my highest usage for one month was 15Gb - hardly a big downloader! I did a ping test from my home PC and my phone line is grade A, so it's not the quality of my line either.

Just out of interest, what kind of download was this? (p2p, ddl...)

@Mweb, why can I not remove the lock you put on your ADSL accounts so they only work from one phone number? When was this put into place? I didn't see any of this crap when I signed up and I am not in the mood to call your support when I have to log into my ADSL account from various location every single time to make it work.

Hi whatwhat.

I take it that you have recently joined us as the secure line number feature is something that we have started enabling on new sign ups over the last few weeks. This should have been communicated to you by the sales agent you dealt with.

We will be rolling this out to the rest of our customers shortly, however there will be communication to accompany this.

The feature is designed to provide our customers with additional protection from unauthorized account use.

The ADSL number that you sign up with is automatically added to the service and you can add 1 additional number yourself via the Myaccount portal. An additional 3 numbers (for a total of 5) can be registered however these will have to be added via the call center for security purposes.

Kind Regards

It's crawling in general...haven't had speeds this slow on a weekend in a while :/

I hope there aren't any Seacom problems again...

Hello.

When I first got this account, I don't know, a couple of months ago, I found that torrents would generally run about half speed during the day and pretty close to full at night.

I don't use torrents much really and I have recently tried to download a couple of things and I am getting perhaps a couple of kB/s during the day and a couple of kB/s + a small handful during weekends and after hours.

Is this related to the upgrades that are going on maybe? Has anyone had a similar experience? It's a bit lame, considering how pathetically slow 384 is, even when it is running at full speed.

Also, has anyone else has a problem with their account just hanging, going dead and requiring a reset of the router to fix?

Thanks.

:D

I dont know about the router problems, but for the torrent problem, have you port forwarded properly, and is your firewall configured to allow the program AND THE PORTS through?

Hope this helps

My torrents been running nicely all night (from around 8) till now. (except for a few hours this morning when I was having probs with my router...). So my line seems fine again for now. :)

(although I seem to have lost all that nice speed pretty much as Im typing this but lets hope...)

Yeah everything is dying a slow death here, connects, then disconnects, then get's a bit of the file, then decides to tell me it's timing out. Not amusing but 1st October is almost here.

For the last months or so I have been have severe speed problems on my 384 uncapped account. During peak times torrents hardly ever exceed 2kb/s. Even off-peak the speeds stay around 5kb/s. The odd time speeds surge to 38kb/s but that only lasts for a maximum of 5 minutes.

Usenet is even worse, I used to get constant speeds between 15kb/s (peak) and 35 kb/s (offpeak), now they are unusable at around 2-4 kb/s. Is anyone else experiencing this or this there anything that can be done to get MWeb to sort my account out? I have honestly been considering moving ISP or changing to capped.

And Megaupload files don't even start, they seem to be blocked completely. Even small ones...

I have been nothing but praise for MWEB since I signed up. Everything has been running perfect.
For the last 2 or so days I am experiencing some general slowness. I checked Telkom with another capped account and it flies. So it's not my line.
On my Mweb uncapped, gaming is definitely a little slower and downloading / Youtube seems about half as fast as usual.
+- 150kbps on a 4mb line. Usually its around 350-360kbps
So not as bad as some of you but definitely deteriorated from my usual experience.

Is this move back onto the mweb network supposed to make us slower or is this some temporary problem? Im only having this slowness on mweb. Its disgustingly bad! I mean seriously! I havent gotten close to 4 meg speeds in the last 4-5 days now.

I moved to mweb a few days ago because my previous ISP throttled me to death, shocking speeds! Seems that I chose the wrong ISP or the wrong time to change (I can only hope its the latter) I am lucky if I get up to 10 kbps on a torrent.

here is my speed test result... What a #$*&^*%# ping!
