heavily shaped between 6 and 6 after that 6pm it will gradually get a bit better and then at about 12-5 unless telkom step up its game no isp will be ahead of the game at the mo beside mweb . reality

Things are looking better, averaging 80Kbs today. Its the best its been all week. We'll see at 20:00 or 22:00 or is it midnight when they turn shaping off and we should then get full speed.

These are my rates for the day. Except for 14:00 - 18:00, this is looking VERY good...

This is absolutely amazing, I think they trying to make up for the k@k speeds we've been getting for the last week :D Let's hope it stays this way for a while

On a 4Mbps line, this must be a joke.
I keep waiting for Ashton to pop up on my screen and the mweb rep to say 'ay man here's all the money we took from you. uncapped ADSL was all just a joke'

Pathetic! Third night in a row and my 4Mb line is getting 30kb/s max.

Time to think about jumping from this sinking ship and going somewhere else. If I wanted a 384kb line I would pay for one.

Same here, getting between 40kb/s-80kb/s on downloading SP3 from Microsoft.com so surely it should have been cached locally and I should get better speeds but yeah it sucks.

Agreed, it's been pretty damn awful the past couple of days (really ever since M-Web started moving clients back from SAIX to their network).

It seems that insufficient capacity exists at M-Web to deal with having all their customers on their network and it's having a not insignificant effect on the overall performance on lower priority services. At the moment I might as well downgrade my account to 384K because despite paying MORE for a 4mbit account, I'm still getting 384K-like performance.

M-Web, you guys have to fix your ****, these problems have been ongoing for months now. Nearly every month there's some issue (often to do with a lack of redundancy) whether it be outright downtime or near nonexistant speeds on shaped services.

CT access seems to be completely dead at the moment, two different routers two different MWEB accounts.

I cant even download never mind throttled... downloads start off at 24kbps then go down alllllll they way to 0kps and stays there. Last couple of days Mweb have seriously disappointed me.
I can barely surf...

Telkom phoned this morning about the fault I reported. They said they can't send a technician in the evening (when the problem happens). Should they still send one in the daytime then?

If your problem is anywhere closely similar to my line problem, it would be best for a tech to come do his testing when your UMC/exchange thingy is actually congested. From your earlier posts I doubt that it is just a simple copper wire problem, as there appears to be a pattern with regard to "when people are home". Then I could be wrong. I took a gamble on paying the R400 odd service charge if the tech came out and found nothing wrong, but fortunately for me when they came round and tested they could ID that there was a problem on my UMC box thing.

The end result was not so crispy unfortunately. They cause was identified as a over loaded UMC, because Telkom's scientists believe that home users only use / should use the internet for browsing and e-mail. Therefore they only provided capacity for 30 connections, with a mix speed of 384 kbps and 512 kbps. Telkom's solution to my (and everyone connected to that box) problem, throttle the 4 users with 4 mbps lines to 1 mbps. This has helped a bit, but I still experience high latency and low speeds over weekends. Apparently that is prime gaming time, and Telkom does not believe that the internet is meant to be used for that or any form of downloading, so they have now refused to upgrade the UMC, now or in the future.

I hope you have better luck than I have. It's up to you whether you want to take the chance on a tech coming out and not finding any problems, in which case you'll have to pay the R400 service charge.

Hi Guys

We are in the process of finalizing our network upgrades. We have IPC nodes in CT and JHB now and we’re moving customers back from the SAIX wholesale network onto our own IPC network. We’re busy load-balancing the CT and JHB IPC nodes at the moment. It’s a case of fine-tuning / tweaking the configuration and it’s likely to take us until the end of this week to get it right. Early next week we will also be getting another 1.2Gbps of international bandwidth.

Kind regards
MWEB Operations

Sounds familiar, especially the bit about Telkom and games. Cretins!

Would that mean finalisation by Friday or Sunday?

I am ever hopeful!! Today for the first time in weeks my download speed has on the whole been acceptable. A bit erratic, this morning was a nightmare but this afternoon has been okay-- I am just hoping this is the end of the frustration. Changing ISPs is not really the route I want to go down after 16+ years. It would take me out of my comfort zone :)

That sounds good.
