Have to agree, at around 1am this morning was getting 10k on a 4mb line, absoloute carp...

For the first time, my line wasn't well enough to play WoW last night. Had to swap to my backup WA account - Will do more testing tonight.

Let's see if it improves over the weekend

It's really bad now. Only did 170 MB overnight from Astraweb on my 4 Mbps line/account. This really SUCKS. This better improve fast or else I'll rather cancel and just use my WA 30 GB account.

MWEB on Facebok
Hi Jovan, shaping is extreme at the moment and this is a necessary evil until our upgrades a complete. I would yet again lite to plea to you to please hang in there, upgrades are happening this weekend.

I'm confused, the e-mail I got said P2P would only be unavailable Saturday Midnight to Sunday 6AM. The speeds currently being experienced are tantamount to total blocking of P2P applications, more than 24 hours before the scheduled time. If this was how the senario was supposed to play out, why bother saying that in the e-mail?! They should have said, "P2P will be unusable from Wednesday evening until the upgrades are complete."

Anyway, whatever. I'm still using more bandwidth watching JustinTV. Also, at what point does MWEB say, enough is enough: we only have enough bandwidth for x amount of customers, which we have now reached and won't be taking on any new ones until more upgrades are completed. Wishful thinking probably.

Yip - I started a download last night at 6pm - its taken till now to download what it should be able to do in two hours.

lol me thinks myBB should offer reading lessons. MWEB has repeatedly said that speeds will be bad until the upgrade work is completed this weekend. Why are so many people still moaning about the poor speeds and demanding something be done immediately or they "cancel". Nothing has changed and nothing will change until Sunday / Monday, it really is not that hard to understand.

my connection was really slow in the beginning of the week but last night it was flying for some reason

Steam was downloading at about 40KB/s and when I played BFBC2 the logins were quick and latency was low

Because it's getting worse and worse and we are paying the same amount. It was fine two weeks ago on the @mweb realm. In fact it was excellent 24 hours a day.

My point MFour is that something has changed. Before Wednesday the situation was bad, since they sent out the upgrade e-mail things have got worse. Not progressively worse, or a little bit worse, I mean so bad that P2P is no longer functioning at all. As stated in my previous post, if MWEB knew that this total degradation would occur then why did they say that P2P will only be unavailable during the upgrade i.e. from Saturday midnight to Sunday morning. What they should have said is, P2P will be unavailable until the upgrade is completed, which is not what they said, ever. Is that really so hard to understand?

The first planned increase will now take place this weekend between midnight on Saturday and 06h00 on Sunday morning. During this time normal browsing and e-mail will operate as per normal, but bandwidth-heavy applications such as Peer-2-Peer will not be available.

Can you see the problem now?

Strange, my P2P (or at least filehosts) has still been going this whole week. Got around 250Kb last night. Definitely not dead. edit: Right now hotfile is pretty much literally dead though.

I've stopped using torrents for the most part, they're almost always slower than rapidshare etc.

Hambone I don't think P2P is dead
I'm getting really bad speeds these last couple of days but I am getting throughput (between 5 and 10KB/s)

They stated that the delay in upgrading came because of issues with their Telkom IPC link upgrade
This as far as I understand was only completed early this week or so

So now all their users is being pushed through that link

Because of that the overall bandwidth is too low so the first thing to suffer will be P2P and all the low priority stuff

Then the mid range stuff like gaming and so forth which I must say I found to have a improvement last night
And lastly priorities traffic like HTTP will suffer

So unfortunately the part you are concentrating on is the part that will suffer the most here.

Well you know what the @mweb realm was right? A plain SAIX account without the uncapped shaping.. so it would be excellent 24/7. Unfortunately we won't get this again, hopefully the normal network after the upgrades will be good enough.

And there's still the next upgrade that they say will be done by the end of this month, only then is the capacity increased by 50%, which might be what people are expecting after Sunday.

By then we will have increased the size of our network by just over 50% and considering that less than 30%
of our base was previously using the SAIX network, this should give you a fair idea of how much additional
capacity you will have available to you.

Additional capacity end Oct: 50% - 30% = 20% all round, assuming that the 30% on the SAIX network had similar network services as the 70% on the MWEB network?

@Veneficus: You make a fair point, thanks. I'm getting a little frustrated now and whilst I usually err on the side of optimism, I'm getting fed up. I understand that P2P is not priority traffic, my concern is that the link has degraded day after day, almost coming to a complete standstill (5 - 10Kb/s is a standstill on a 4 Meg line in my opinion, and even those speeds are erratic and rare in my case). Why has MWEB continued to sign people up for the service that is as it stands right now is not able to cope with demand? Why couldn't they just hold out until after the weekend to sign more people up? And then to add insult to injury they launch a 10Mbps services for businesses?! How does that make sense?

Ironically as I was typing this my torrents jumped to a whopping 39Kb/s; touch wood it stays like this. I will leave this alone now... until the weekend when the upgrades are complete. The upgrades better change things quite drastically, or else I shall be waving my proverbial finger once more.

What are most people on now?

@dslmweb or @mweb?

I am on @mweb and news speeds are up and down.

Torrents - dead on both.

I wonder who will be getting up early on Sun to test? :D

Gonna be really interesting man.

Two things can be predicted with certainty for Sunday morning: The sun will rise and this thread will be at the top of the active forum list....:D
