On the plus side I switched to a new usenet provider (from Astraweb) and can now do 100 KBps (vs 20) which makes it kinda useful again. So looks like Astraweb is targetted for extra shaping. Still canceling ...

Yip - you won't go more than 100KBs on Astraweb... Also, are you downloading from the MWEB news group at the same time? That will give you a 20KB boost.
 
Torrents did well last night. Went up to 400kb/s after 1am and would probably have stayed there if I had more well seeded stuff in the download queue

I have given up on the Mweb news server. Using international ones instead. They don't seem to have an issue with burning international bandwidth...

Use both at the same time, i.e. Astraweb and MWEB - it gives you a small boost.
 
I use MWeb and astroweb at the same time

I get about 40k before 6pm, between 6-pm and 11pm around 80 to 100k, 11pm to 1am around 250k and then after 1am till i leave for work... Full speed.

I dont download during the day at all.


Two weeks ago.. it was 30k a second 24/7

You should do HTTP in the day, its full speed. Thats how I got 495,769.28MB last month. That and using torrents after hours gives you amazing performance.
 
I can't even download a 4.7MB file without it timing out... God I can't wait for this month to end.
 
today was the first day i downloaded heavily since the weekend and my http ran full speed all day using two filehosts, still running at 300kbs right now, torrents ran at 300kbs+ last night.
http in the day, torrents/nzbs at night.

Wish I was also having awesome performance :( Barely getting one third of line speed on torrents tonight (384 line)

Are you quiting Mweb? Where are you going next?

I'm currently getting 256kb/s on torrents and my brother is getting 20kb/s on torrents (384kbps line).
 
Torrents were still running 400kb/s just before 7am today.
The trend I am spotting is that in the majority of serious performance cases users are trying synchronize their newsgroup subscriptions?

So were my newsgroups... then I turned them off because I was leaving for work
 
Perhaps you are subscribed to less newsgroups than Naks if yours are working? What newsgroup reader do you use?

Torrents are still doing OK, but I guess they will drop to 20kb/s at 8am:

Try less than 1% of line speed - I could not even download a 5.5MB file on 4MB. (and I tried various sources for the same file)
