You can use download managers to download from these sites.... once the timer is up and it gives you the URL - copy the URL to the download manager. If it dies, or you pause it, just go back to the site, get a new URL, and replace the one in the download manager with this.

Obviously won't work for screwed cached.

except the free options disable resume support

Yes, some like filemonster and ORON works like that, but not FileSonic or FileServe or ul.to and those are the ones I have broken cached copies of. I have emailed Mweb about this 48 hours ago and still nothing.

Never tried 'em... or come across anyone using them - no wonder you used to get full line speed :p

Yes - using the same URL - hence copying and pasting the new URL.

I know, have actually tried that years ago(out of sheer desperation), the downloads refused to start the second time or just started from the beginning again.

FileSonic and FileServe runs fullspeed all the tine, Oron is shaped to hell and gone... :(

And now that you mentioned them, these will also become slow ... (that's why I haven't mentioned my new usenet provider, ppl are watching ...)

Another week, another promised 'fix'...what century will normal service resume? Torrents going at 0.3k, MWEB newsservers completely unconnectable for most of the day...all the same familiar problems are back for me...why can't one of them just work at 10/25k, since others are getting 10-400k during the day? Should I start investigating content from obscure http sources, or just cancel now? This is NOT how broadband internet should be, and last week I was praising MWEB for fixing my problems, but it only lasted ~48hrs, then it was back to the same crappy MWEB performance; so I retract all that praise now and will now go take a shower...

*rant over*

Where are you situated at? Near Cape Town or Johannesburg?

Try using the Mweb news server with the IP address 196.28.78.229
I'm near Cape Town (in Stellenbosch) and I rarely have problems downloading from that news server on my 384kbps Mweb account.

I've just had a look at my MikroTik's graphs and I've maxed out my line from 06:00-08:00 @ ~ 40kB/s and then from 08:00-10:00 I've downloaded at 128kbps, because I've configured a rate limit of 128kbps.

Im looking at getting an Afrihost 25+25. I am not a fan of afrihost, not by a long shot. Maybe their capped solution will be better than their Uncapped solution

Their capped is waaaaaaaaaay better than their uncapped.

yep, there are still a few filehosts and news providers that are off mwebs radar.... oron used to be one of them, used to get 300+ at all hours, moral of the story... stfu if u happen to come across something mweb is not shaping to hell, fileserve is also being shaped more these days, seldom goes above 100kbs for me at the best of times, this past weekend it seemed stuck at 39kbs most of the time.

got http running at 380kbs since this morning though.... not all bad i suppose

Yip - never paid for an http file sharing service. Works on rapidshare, megafile/host/can't remember, hotfile, etc.

Must be my wonderfully stable line then, the great benifit of not living in a city.

Neither is mine, was only half-stable when I had a capped account. All hail telkom, as screwed up as everything else managed by gov.

They have automated systems that add high usage destination to the shaping pool. If you look at the response you get out of them on this forum it becomes apparent how pro active their human resources are... So in short, no one is going to add these to the list of what to shape simply because we talk about it.

You cannot restart these downloads unless you have a pro account and the URL from which you are downloading stays the same. Oron and FileMonster will give you a URL that is valid for 8 hours if access by your IP. These URL can be restarted and resumed as you please.

Other use a click-through redirect when you download so you cannot restart the download because it sees it as a new request and you are already downloading from them. So if it fails you need to wait for the usage period to pass before you can try again.

Very frustrating on Mweb.

trust me....they are much more proactive when it comes to finding new ways and destinations to shape.
