My news server experience still suck huge mothballs. It's taken me two weeks to download a 11.4GB file and I am now on 6.694GB. I am currently running on 20 to 30 KB/s but I had short stretches of 100+ KB/s. It seems that as soon as you connect it flies away for a few seconds until some buffering comes in effect and then slows down to a crawl.

Anyone have a NZB to share that is cached by news.mweb so I can test this animal properly?

OK, my problem is solved it seems. Nothing to do with Mweb in the end. I changed my interface from AltBinz back to Grabit after I done everything Mweb suggested and I tried many other "optimizations". Grabit now runs at 200+ KB/s on the same movie file. So there seems to be an issue between my AltBinz and Windows7.

Thanks anyway Will!

thanks for getting back to me MWEB Guy and Will - speed seems better now - will keep checking.

He means turn it off, wait 30 mins and then turn it on. I suspect that guarantees you will get a new IP address.

I can only theorize that "protected" access put you in a separate pool of IP addresses that are treated differently in some way, that affects performance.

i just wait 30min and restart the router, always worked well enough

Orkney, close to Klerksdorp. I turned my router off for a while but still only getting about 15kb/s

Dear Mweb Ops

For the past 2 weeks since some of the network issues have been reported I have been unable to access http://fanart.tv/ which I use for my XBMC media center.

I can access it on my MTN or Cell C data sims, but not on my Mweb account. Used to work perfectly. No changes to my router or PC's.

Seems to be a DNS problem ?

any ideas ??

Hmmm, has someone hit the speed "button"? My mweb has just disconnected so I manually dialed in again...now getting close to 200kb/s again. Hope it keeps going like this.

Confirmed. I'm over MWEB's DNS. I was moaning about constant timeouts and laggy page responses the other day. Changed the DNS to googles 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 on one of my machines and they problems have all gone. That site loads on the google machine, but not on the MWEB machines. Good luck :)

Yip. It's fuggin crazy.

Mweb - not sure what "network upgrades" you're implementing, but the "free the web" slogan is becoming "fear the web" because with you it's completely unpredictable.

A pro 4096kbs line, is when upload overtakes download

Anyways suffering from the same slow downloads and high latency for both local and international traffic as most people here...I'm in JHB south...
