How does one do this? Some instructions would help. Thanks (unless you have covered this already elsewhere, point me there, thanks). SL

Log into your MWEB account/MyADSL and look on the main page for the "Protected access" link.

Speeds seem better!

Last Result:
Download Speed: 319 kbps (39.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 105 kbps (13.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: -1 ms

Is anyone here an MWEB business subscriber? Are the 1024 lines being upgraded?

Hi Smiley_lauf,

Open the MWEB website and sign into My Account with your MWEB email address & password. Once signed in, click onto the ADSL link on your left and you'll find the settings Protected Access.

Or I could just do it from my side for you :)

Kind regards,

MWEB Guy

I am getting an error when trying to log into myadsl.mweb.co.za, " --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hope that helps

My news server experience still suck huge mothballs. It's taken me two weeks to download a 11.4GB file and I am now on 6.694GB. I am currently running on 20 to 30 KB/s but I had short stretches of 100+ KB/s. It seems that as soon as you connect it flies away for a few seconds until some buffering comes in effect and then slows down to a crawl.

Anyone have a NZB to share that is cached by news.mweb so I can test this animal properly?

wow, that actually worked, thanks.
btw saying that i have to reboot my router for 30min is misleading, makes it sound like i need to somehow make the startup process take 30min....cant see how that is possible
Doesn't look like Mweb guy going to tell us what the 30 min is for ...

OK, so gaming is out of the question today as latency is spiking a hell of lot. Now Im trying to download a few small things and am getting a whopping 2kb\s with my uncapped 4mb mweb account and a paid news server. Ive tried some http downloads and am getting the same result. This is getting ridiculous now.

He means turn it off, wait 30 mins and then turn it on. I suspect that guarantees you will get a new IP address.

I can only theorize that "protected" access put you in a separate pool of IP addresses that are treated differently in some way, that affects performance.

are you guys also struggling top dl, open web pages, even struggling to dload Windows 7 updates - have send you my username Mr Mweb, can you please fix...

Yes, I am having problems all over. Websites take ages to open, getting now 1kb/s download speed max no matter what I try and download. Can't play games either. Im guessing there is nobody working at mweb that can actually help us since it's Saturday evening.

Protected access operates from the same IP pool, however it's designed to protect the average user from a lot of inbound traffic. I would recommend that gamers and downloaders turn this off by default. The reason you need to wait 30 minutes is because there can sometimes be a queue delay between removing the setting on the front and and the change provisioning onto the authentication servers.

Anyone who is still experiencing problems can you indicate roughly where you are located?
