I swear most of you guys are running a cable through kyalithsha... Never had a bad day with Mweb yet...

Anyways, I'd just like to know, what happens once our WTFAST accounts expire? Planning on renewing them, or was this a once off deal?
You're either delusional or seriously far too open to suggestion.

Perhaps you browse for 5 minutes a week and that's it?

Ahhh.. A little research and it shows a memory problem:

These words sound familiar?

Bleh, my net feels slower than 56k line

Who broke what :?

what news client are you suing , sometimes ( for me atleast), altbinz and sometimes garbit refuses to connect , i switched to sabnz and it worked im not sure why, but in m case it worked.

News running at 400kbs+

Currently I'm running Alt.Binz, I'll try Grabit, don't feel like setting up sabnz again right now.

Thanks.

Hi Pyro,

Your DNS's are assigned automatically to your connection from MWEB.

Kind regards,

MWEB Guy

I know that, but the way my current connection is setup I set the DNS manually as I mix and match between a few ISPs. Couldn't recall my MWEB password as the saved one brings up the Password page links.

Over my router setup where the password was saved more recently the connection works fine.

Since I'm using the correct .229 IP, it's probably not a DNS issue though, so I'll scratch around elsewhere.

Fiddled a bit, but didn't really change anything...

It's working again (perhaps it only need a disconnected rest).

When I connected directly to Mweb, I was assigned the DNS servers:
196.28.75.200
196.28.75.210

Downloading at full 384K speed.

Probably just router PMS-ing on my side...

News and torrents working good now.
Browsing and youtube still sucks though, had to wait 3 min today for Standard bank internet banking (https). 9 min Youtube 240p vid takes 9 minutes to load. Looking for new posts on www.thumpertalk.com takes just a little bit less than 4 minutes.

Wow, quite the patient fellow. Wouldn't wait 9min for any page to load. I'd smack my PC a shot.

I wanted to, but like my mom always said, patience is a virtue (and I wanted some actual numbers to throw around) ;)

4.5k a sec here... also CPT, Rondebosch - absolutely putrid for a 4 meg line. Seriously pathetic. Being shaped this hard is making the 4mb line completely redundant.

In fact Will/Mweb Guy:

Please urgently look into why I am getting these speeds on NNTP. Shaping or no shaping 5kb/s is not acceptable for the product I'm on. Speeds during the day (9am - 2am) have been as per the attached screenshot for the last few weeks now and frankly im at the end of my patience. HTTP is not running as it should, torrents are ok-ish, streaming is up and down and NNTP is pretty much dead. If I switch to another ISP all protocals are running at twice the speed on everything except NNTP, which runs about 50 times faster. Please, I am getting tired of having to continuously buy bandwidth from elsewhere because the performance on this account is so shocking. I have brought this up before with no assistance received.

Agreed. I am on 4mbs uncapped, and get the full speed, unless MWeb is having an issue with Seacom or similar.
I do not use news servers, but do use some of the one-click services, and get the full speed.
Stream some video too, like The Daily Show and Sky News, and all good.
Very happy with MWeb!

Hi ssung,

Is your connection still problematic?

Kind regards,

MWEB Guy

In case you didn't notice: my connection has been problematic (read: crap) for most of May. Arriving home from work just now, only to find that torrents managed <100mb for the past ~14hours, newsgroups did squat and were apparently unconnectable for most of the day, and now pictures & pages won't load.

I don't know what to make of it anymore; hearing ppl about getting 'only' 262k on nntp when I'm getting nothing really...you know...good for them on 4mb. I can't enjoy what I would normally be enjoying (no, not that) and I really don't ask for much from my 512k, but it's reached the stage now where I will have to cancel if nothing improves after the 1mb upgrade.

For the record: MWEB Guy 'helped' me out a few months ago & 'fixed' my connection; it flew for a day or two & then regressed to something near bearable, but the decline over the last month has been rapid & harsh. There's no point in carrying on like this...I gave MWEB Guy props shortly after he 'fixed' my connection last time & never said anything after it faltered soon after, so I don't really see the point when I think there's a bigger problem...

...so do what you have to & I will pray for the bandwidth I'm paying for...and let's see what happens...???

Dropbox is classed as one-click hosting as far as I'm aware which falls into the p2p group so you won't get full speeds on this on a shaped account.

That's fine. For the purpose of the "challenge" I issued to Durban users, whether it is shaped or not is irrelevant. I'm merely highlighting the vastly inferior experience Durban users are currently getting compared to Cape Town users.

Wait till between 11am and 2pm and the massive amounts of QQ will start which will last the whole week again. I hope im wrong, but lets see if my prediction comes true :)

lolface @ the "we demant faster piracy & torrents!" commens

Yeah I'm seeing a lot of people in high spirits after the weekend, thinking that all has been fixed... Unfortunately, weekends were never the issue. :(
