MWEB Guy, I made a lengthy post in response to what you asked "what do i expect" and you ignore it.

Just so everyone here knows what i have done so far:

Hours of phoning telkom, making 100% its not my line.
Gave the details to Mweb reps multiple times.
Got more capped accounts and tested them all, they were all fine. Only Mweb account gives issues.

What Mweb has done in response:
Gave me some generic response and at one stage, said they changed a setting. The setting they changed was apparently to set off protected access on the account, unblocking ports generally used by hackers, without telling me exactly what they did (it did not help). After i told them it did not help they did not enable it again. A few days later someone tried to access my netteller account and wanted to withdraw money, thankfully there was nothing in it at the time but i had to go through allot of problems to get the netteller account protected and safe again.

Now i get a question about what i expect, i answer them with a lengthy post and they ignore it.

Yes, because you put of the protected access without telling me about it and what it does i hold you personally responsible for the troubles i had with it.

So yeh, i have a good reason to be upset, so fix what you did. Now.

Sillicur you are continuallly expressing your discontent with the shaped nature of your product, however according to my records you have managed to download 70GB this month - that's not a bad haul for R219-00 wouldn't you say?

MWEB GUY

Can't you guys just roll back to the settings you guys had 30 days ago? I'm you keep back ups.

First off thanks for ignoring most of my post. Well done to that.
So the amount if i have downloaded makes up for the fact that i cannot play starcraft 2 on the account anymore?
What about the protected access part? Care to comment on that?

The reason i can still do 70gig is because i leave my pc on 24/7 now instead of just 10-12 hours like usual. Thats just quality of life on the internet more than amount done. Its not a bad haul, thats not the issue. The issues is there are always issues. Be it internet stopping to work, not being able to download a 26kb document i needed at 4pm yesterday.

The amount I download by leaving on my pc 24/7 has nothing to do with the quality of life and your shaping being more aggressive. It was easy for me to get all my stuff from news server and i averaged about 40-50gig a month but now i have to get stuff from HTTP and FTP, which means i have to redownload allot of stuff from time to time.

So, thats all you have to say, giving personal information to everyone on these forums about my usage after a post about the protected access, shaping and starcraft 2 not working either? Really? Thankfully now everyone can read about the type of treatment you actually give.

It must take some real patience to stay calm and keep coming back to this thread. Yesterday I also had issues with browsing and video streaming but was bearable.

I consider myself more level headed and objective than most of the people here. I'd like to continue supportng MWEB because of all the good you have done, but this isn't on.

I really think that you guys made the 4MB/s package too cheap and now everyone is suffering.

Not sure what more there is to say.

What a pathetic answer. How do you know what he regards as decent ? It's an uncapped product at R219 not a "oh that seems decent" product for R219.
Pathetic. Pathetic.

Stop being a hard arse. Uncapped has never been this cheap before. Try being more grateful. Yes, it is bad now, but don't act like a spoiled child.

I've already sent my cancellation through. You don't need to bad mouth someone. Just do what needs to be done.

Thanks for voicing your concerns Qwikslver, how is your browsing and streaming today?

I'm not at home. I just got home to hear my brother complain about the internet. The reason I stayed with MWEB last year, even though you guys had those issues after the first seacom break break was because for the most part you guys kept working when everyone else didn't.

I hope you guys come right. I've already sent through my cancellation though. I keep harping about Open Gold, time to put my money where my mouth is.

What a dumbass. Grateful ? If I pay for a service I'm not getting and it's never resolved I'll badmouth whoever I like. I suppose you're grateful when your rubbish doesn't get collected ? Are you grateful for loadshedding in winter ?
As for the "never been cheaper" .... we are way behind even countries in the undeveloped world.

We are and will continue to try and improve our network and ultimately the experience of the end user. Please let me know if there is anything we can do to retain you as an MWEB client?

Perhaps provide us the contact details for your brother and we will contact him to do the relevant troubleshooting.

But he got more than his money's worth for that R219. Take 70gb at R19/gb, gives you a grand total of R1330. Yes, there are times when the net is slow, but saying you are not getting service is wrong.

Sheesh mate where did you learn logic or go to school ?
He's not paying R19 per Gb and that's not what he signed up for.
He's paying R219 for uncapped usage. Any attempt to evade that issue means you work for MWEB.

what it comes down to, is that mweb have supplied a quality service for a while now.
And to increase their bottom line, have implemented new regulations without notifying or indicating to the consumer that this would ever happen.

You think its a coincidence this started happening from the 1st of the month.

sneaky and underhanded business practises? yes
Illegal? Probably not

But what more do you expect from mweb. Remember they are still the same company that monopolized the ISP market, buying out smaller ISPs back in the dial-up days and setting their price.

Feedback

hmm so I've just stumbled over this thread and it's very easy to find as it grows a guess so does M web's reputation. The saying that "any publicity is good publicity" doesn't ring true here :) I work abroad in Frankfurt and I've only returned a few months ago my wife has MWEB so i didn't think about changing it because it's rather good in Cape Town it seems anyway. P2P has started suffering in the last week but I'm thinking that's cause my wife has gone a little of her rocket with the downloading. Checked her usage a 125g :wtf: But I've had no issues with MWEB so far "Touch wood" I'm in the process of installing WoW here now and it's busy patching so I'll wait and see. Subscribed to WTFast through Mweb as well.

Can anyone confirm that it helps at all? What doesn't really make sense to me is MWEB going through the trouble to promote the gamers come first approach with WTFast and them enforcing such harsh shaping protocols on games?

South Africa might be a little behind in the ISP department then the rest of the world but i promise you there more transparent that other International ISP's i know. Either that or SA users are just more clued up than others. But in the end if MWEB takes the quantity above quality approach I'm jumping ship to WebAfrica. Let's see what happens tomorrow when the lines are upgraded

No, I don't work for them, but I am just more realistic in my expectations.
