Cant see how one can download 20Gb in one day if your shaped for majority of the day really. The most I could do was like 8-12 GB max.

Not sure if this is an mweb issue (quite possibly not), but I have recently reinstalled BFBC2 and patched it to what I think is the latest version (build 602574). Unfortunately I can never log in, get "unable to log in, please try again" any advice?

I've always read (and currently believe) that you can download as much as you want as long as you dont bypass the shaping.

Then again it was from a friend of a friend of a friend.

No attempt was made to bypass shaping. Normal Astraweb that was running very well for a portion of last month.

Why can I not download from an international news server during the day, but MWEB news is flying? If it's NNTP shaping shouldn't both be affected in the same way?

I don't understand the logic behind this.

Thats kinda sad. I know they say they are not shaping individual accounts, but MwebGuy/Will please explain why my news to MWEB news is FLYING at a wopping 5.5 to 7kb/s then and someone else on the same news server is actually flying? We know its not my line seeing that on an Mweb unshaped account i get full speed all the way. So it must be individual shaping...It has to be. The content is 24 hours old and cached. So just please answer me to this on the forums.

PS: To the users, seems 56k speed during the day while others are getting awesome speeds are "unfortunate that im not satisfied with it" and "there is nothing more we can do". Yup that has actually been told to me today. That and the fact that a while back I was phoned by someone from mweb (dont want to say their name here) and get raged at by them for 10+ minutes because of my positing on these forums.

Eat that, FYI i have proof of this, your move.

mweb will kick you on the belt buckle and talk circles around your issues if you do above 20gb a day on the uncapped free the web account, and flag that uncapped free the web account
they will also suggest an unshaped account, i don't see how doing more than 20gb a day on a shaped is abuse vs more than 20gb on unshaped isnt abuse... (they both share the same AUP)

nb , not my account though, mine is still flying ,doing less than 60gb a month

but, dont think you should go ahead and buy 5 games (average of 8gb each) on steam and download them over weekend, you might get flagged as an abuser



* edit, personally i think 600gb for R550 is still way good value for money in our markets, but then it shouldn't be labeled as uncapped and you get scolded if you cross the imaginary line, or atleast give the info somewhere...

Okay, whats your email? Mine is [email protected] plz send the article here. Im going at 2kb/s now. That is bad at any standard of internet, even 56k. I will reply via email with the article that im using. I just asked a friend in JHB to download my article thou and his running at 32kb/s on the same article.

Sillicur you have been answered numerous times, we don't shape individuals and the MWEB news service is a best effort experience. I can't tell you why someone down the road is getting faster speeds than you if you're on the same product and you beleive that the line quality is the same - I simply don't have that capability. When it comes down to it you're on a contended service, using low priority traffic and connecting to a free NNTP service. It simply isn't possible given all of those variables to promise that everyone will get the same speeds at the same time, there are too many variables.

Heretic and I are downloading the same file, I am getting 2kb/s now thou.

Will its not about the same speed at the same time, its about the fact that i will continue to get this speed for the better part of 10 hours while others get good speed for that time. Its not about line quality, seeing as your unshaped mweb account goes full speed. Its purely shaping, dont you dare bring line quality into this. Your welcome to phone me any time before 5. Maybe blow off some more steam.
