MWEB Uncapped Subscribers Feedback

@MWEB Guy what don't you understand, it works if I do it without authentication. but I want to use my own damn mail server. how difficult is that to understand?

Please use port 587, please ensure that your mail server is allowing port 587. Please provide me the relevant feedack.

I will move to another ISP if this is not fixed today. smtp servers use port 25........ not what ever random port you want us to open on firewalls. this is rubbish

why do I need to make mail server changes because you guys to silly things?

Please note that we have provided all our clients notifications regarding the change, please see the reason for the change below:

As a preventative measure to combat outbound spam and virus-generated email traffic, MWEB will no longer support the direct sending of mail on Port 25. All port 25 traffic will be silently redirected to our own relay servers so that we can effectively manage any malicious traffic, thereby protecting our network from blacklisting. Should you wish to send mail through an external relay server in future, you will have to use the mail submission port (587), which should be supported on all standards compliant relay servers. If your relay server does not support this, please mail the details to [email protected] and we will investigate an alternative solution for you.

I never got the notification..... and I still think this is bull****. I will be canceling.

I do understand why you would want to do this, but to request your clients to open up firewall ports on their mail servers, just because mweb want to secure people?

MWeb 4 Mbps Uncapped

My MWeb uncapped account started out great (400 kbps +) but over the last few months it has become downright ridiculous. On a good day I'm lucky to get 2 mbps speeds now;

I've had Telkom out to have a look at the line multiple times but no joy here either, seem to be getting a few CRC and header errors. Don't know where to turn anymore because between Telkom and MWeb I'm just getting the run-around!

Good Afternoon MyCroft, please provide me your MWEB email address to enable me to rule out possible causes.

It magically went up to (almost) normal speed?

Was that your doing? :D

I have done nothing as yet, I am still in the process of checking everything.
Please keep me informed if it changes again.

Regards
MWEB Guy

Well it went to 400kBps or so for a few minutes and is now back to <250kBps...

Dynamic shaping of NNTP traffic. 250 is the new norm on weekend during the day, 120 during weekdays office hours, and full speed between roughly 2am and 8am. (assuming 4mbit line speed)

I've been tracking it for the last week since they implemented better throttling, apologies "dynamic shaping".

Yeah, appears my NNTP is being "throttled" today like Homer does to Bart

Only trickling through at 20 KB/s average on 1 meg account. Been absolutely brilliant until today. Hoping the server is just having a bad day ;)

i'm downloading a torrent now and guess what,i have been able to download 3GB in 1d 19h and i have uploaded 5GB.how the hell did i upload more then i downloaded :?

1. your upload rate went more than your download rate
2. you uploaded when you weren't downloading
3. even if a file you download is say 1GB, you can still upload more than 1GB cause you upload parts of that 1GB to people who need it.

it is how a file that starts to get seeded helps the people that have it 1st, get good D:U ratio because the file will be seeded to a lot more than when a file already has a lot of seeders.

Its because mweb have dynamic shaped your torrent downloads to the max
