MWEB Uncapped Subscribers Feedback

Hi Guys,

Well lets put it this way, the reality of it is to have an account and test it, I signed up today for a 4mb home user account to test, the signup process was quick and simple and I have been running this line since 6 tonight, and my findings are.

The latency on the link to local and international sites is around 15 - 20% higher than our saix test account, google.com is around 300ms on a saix account, and on the mweb account it varies from 350 to 400ms, to the UK as well we notice this, what I notice is on the trace route to these sites when testing is there is a lot of route flapping going on on the links, and this does introduce a higher latency due to this. BUT there is a noticable difference.

Our local servers here on a saix account our test on a saix is 12ms stable, but on the mweb account it ranges from 18ms to 40ms more than double.

I can say that the speeds on the mweb account are definately better than our afrihost and IS account, but there are some noticable delays at times and it pi...ses me off when it happens, but for the price the accounts are probably a better deal than the other uncapped accounts around at the moment. We will be monitoring these accounts to do a decent comparison over the next few weeks to see which is going to pan out to be the better one of the lot, and will be posting the results.

Right now for normal access I will switch back to my Saix account, the only thing that sucks is its a normal account pay per Gb.

Thanks, better on topic contribution as it is factual feedback (and not a off topic emotional rant/opinion on what Internet users do/should not do).

So in short what are you saying. The Mweb network is sound? Would you recommend it?

Does anybody know why on the uncapped form it states 4096/384 . It has been upgraded to 4096/512 for quite some time now, I think the rate should not be limited to bellow our countries 4mbit/512kbit sync rates.

Can anybody bring some light to this situation?

To use or not to use

Well as I said I been using since 6pm tonight, and I can definately see a difference between a saix account and the mweb account, My 2 sons been bitchin because there is lag on their games now where before on a saix account they were playing fine.

We normally use 30Gb a month on our line for business and then the kids and their gaming with their pcs and xboxes, so from a cost perspective it is worth it, if you are prepared for some issues in lieu if cost, but the real crux will come once more and more users come online and then the real test will come to bear, Can the network support it.......

For me for business during the day I will switch my account to my trusty saix account, and at night / weekends I will defo use this account for now, I have 4 adsl accounts under test currently, basically I check and test to see what is happening simultaneously on the lines, we use 4 machines running various tests and monitor the lines relative latencies, etc to various sites, etc and in a week or so I will be making a decision if I would go the Mweb business route or not, there is no way I am going to signup for a 12 month contract if the network is going to perform the way it is at the mo.

Also you have all the "id 10 t's" downloading all they can at the moment as well so that affects it as well.

But so far it seems value for money.. definately better than getting half the throughput like on a afrihost account.. my opinion of an afrihost account at the moment is half the price / half the speed :p

I'd have to disagree... I'm really happy with their service, an often in games I'm sitting with the lowest ping..

Can some one post mwebs with a 4Mbps line?
I'd like to compare. (preferably outside of their shaping times)

even at discounted rates, bandwidth in this country has been almost unaffordable. lots of stuff i want to download but can't afford to. also mweb burnt us nicely by stopping uncapped local so abruptly and making it so expensive. i intend on paying for their uncapped services and using it to the extent i wish. thanks for all the comments on your experience with these account, i will definitley be watching them closely.

There is almost no feedback on the 384 connections.Im on SAOL 384(R499) uncapped at the moment is it worth going over to mweb ?

From my speedtest of a few servers around the world was not the pings (those were pretty consistent with the ones i get on the axxess express+), but that the speed of download was consistent across the servers. on the axxess account i would often get pretty poor speeds from new york, sydney and tokyo.

Check your DNS settings?

Can anyone on the 4MB option post some ping/tracert results from is,wage and saix game servers. Anyone using steam with the MWEB Uncapped?

Try:

ipconfig /flushdns

Well we have lost our international traffic today, no access after the 5th hop, local is fine, but internations gone. I phoned them thay said there is no issues on their network. I swapped back to saix and my line is fine, went back to IS and it too is fine, back to mweb, same.

We are running 4mb will post stats when we get back online again....

Continuing to run well so far. Has the occasionaly hiccup, but I must say it's vastly, vastly better than both Sainet's capped and uncapped solutions, and Screamers uncapped. I'd say 90% as good as a traditional SAIX account - so at this price, I'm thrilled.

Anyone tried the business account yet? I'm tempted...
