I just signed up online... takes 2 minutes.

Getting 200kb/s from Astraweb

+1

And +1 for SAOL for keeping their service rate up. I'm with them and will never look at another ISP until they cut the BS and give you what they say (just like SAOL does).

This is going to be quite a laugh. Mweb are going to get bombarded with signups ... can the infrastructure handle it??

Got Mweb Uncapped:D

So far quite good. Had a bit of problems because I was given th wrong username to start with (one digit missing) and at first had a battle with there technicians but then got through to this one oke, Warrick and he was really good, especially as my router chose that moment to F me around. He was patient and helpful so I'm quite happy with the service so far. And web sites are loading a lot faster then with Hellkom.:D Will test thoroughly tonight, downloads, NZB's, Youtube, etc to see what it can do.

Hmm, got my 4MB Mweb today.
Ran a speedtest at http://speedtest-rba.isdsl.net/

Code:
Start Time: 13:23:02
End time: 13:23:35
IP Address: 41.132.210.54
Download Size: 409600 bytes
Time Delta: 33.897225141525 seconds
Download Speed: 12 KBytes/s
Line Speed: 96 kbits/s

This is slower than my previous Axxess was during threshold time... heres to hoping it is a temporary thing. (speedtest.com does not even manage to finish - it timesout)

Something wrong there! Perhaps wait a few hours and test again? I'm going like the clappers today.

Guys, let's see some more speedtests please? Keen to see what the speed's like now that Mweb have provisioned more bandwidth.

I'm getting faster speeds than you on a slower connection :p And I'm also with Mweb Uncapped.

Give it a while , check your local settings , and stop the pron in the background.

Problem seems sorted out now! No idea why it was slow to start but now it is full speed!

Yeah, after waiting a loooong while on their support line to get my free account details also mailed to me I am finally connected. The account works great, such that if it stays like this I will get myself an account next month.

What I like most, with the shaping, is that when I download at full speed, browsing still feels super snappy as it would on a idle line. Most other ISP accounts browsing would feel slow while downloading full speed. A great experience indeed. Downloading at times do slow down, however I feel this is acceptable us uncapped ISP's networks will always be heavily contended, especially in SA where everyone wants to hog all the bandwidth right now because they believe every ISP owe them something.

Quick question, what do the subscribers feel is the best way to test speed. Speedtest for me seems like a marketing platform more than an accurate testing site. Who do you use?

an ftp/http download will never lie to you

unless its cached :o

Go to nvidia and download some random driver.

It depends what you want to test. NVidia's downloads are mirrored locally, so that is local performance really. You could download something off an international non-akamai server to test international speeds. And if you want to know P2P speeds then you need a very well seeded torrent or two to test.

i actually have a speedtest script that downloads a 2-3MB file from the linux kernel.org site.

torrents are very unreliable as a speed test measure i find
